Tigger said:Grigorenko is still top 5, not that it should be too surprising but it seems like the boohooing of him by a few hasn't had much of an affect.

Olli Maata is another one of those guys everyone one is going a little gaga over right now with his run with the Knights. They will be saying *could* be another Karlsson which is what everyone will start saying now, which of course teams will be scared to pass up on and miss out.

3 out of the last 5 drafts, no goalies were taken in the 1st round.

He's not quite Karlsson, but I don't think it is actually a bad comparison. I haven't been able to see nearly as many games this year as in years past due to call schedules but the few games I went to over the course of the year (and the odd tape-delayed game late at night), there has been a big jump in his play and I think it had a lot to do with injury and getting used to the North American ice. He's far more confident in his interviews and he has a leadership role on the ice and while he is on the bench.
I think his talent isn't quite #1 defenseman level, but I think he's going to be a really, really, really good 2nd pairing guy who maxes out as a #2 defenseman.
The Leafs don't need defensemen so I'm not going to tout trading down for him (I think based on current production level you can't risk a top 7-8 pick on the guy) but I think he very well could end up being the steal of the draft if he goes in the mid-late teens.

Yup. Goalies are kind of strange in that an unusually large portion of the better goalies in the league were drafted in the back half of the draft. Though, I suppose, to a degree, that makes some sense as well - these are guys that were given more time to develop properly and their teams took more time with them, instead of trying to move things along a little more quickly as teams tend to do with players drafted in the first couple rounds of the draft.

Picture Bobby Orr but better at texting.

Unless they trade down. Then they can get two ok players!

I'd prefer 3 mediocre players.
