The only subsequent tournament I will be interested in is U24 TNA vs EUR. Best of 7.

4 team tournament. U-24. Team Canada, Team USA, Team Scandanavia, Team Rest of Europe.

That is also compelling. Keep the Olympics for the elderly and this tournament for the whippersnappers and I'd watch the heck out of every game.

Now I need some hypothetical rosters.

i can't believe this ends in a best of three tournament.  whomever came up with that idea definitely didn't envision a canada/team europe final .

Maybe they'll call off the second game after Canada romps in game 1.

good thing it wasn't team north america.  their coaches wouldn't have told them it was a best of 3 until after the first game.

I was reaching pretty deep for Europe's defensemen.

I hope this tournament earns Ralph Krueger another chance in the NHL. He obviously flamed out the first time but I mean come on, it was Edmonton. And while it's not saying much, his was the Oilers best season in 7 years.

0 EUR v CAN 2

Exactly as expected. Europe doing alright in shots, but Canada's 4 1st lines are relentless  with their short, hard shifts.

I guess the same thing was true in 2014 but I really don't remember a Team Canada like this where every line was a top quality line. The '02 had some past their prime guys like Nieuwendyk and Lindros and some plugger types like Smyth and even the '10 team had your Morrows and such.

Here it's like I'm forgetting guys who are some of the best players in the league. Like "Oh yeah, John Tavares is here and he's incredible". If Benn and Seguin were healthy this team would have been insane.

On paper, Marchand was the 'weak-link'. He is second behind Crosby in points so far in the tournament. Leader in goals scored at the moment.

This game is pretty much what I was afraid the whole tournament would be. It's weird to be at a final matchup, and the intensity/drama is less than the prelims.

Anyone who doesn't think there's a balance problem in international hockey should pay attention tonight. Canada doesn't trail at all tonight, win by two goals and outshoots opponent 38-33 and post-game is all about how they weren't pretty enough.

it felt like an early round robin game from the olympics when all the commentators spend the game tut-tutting about Canada not beating Germany by enough goals.  Only this is game One of a possible three, which somehow makes it worse.

Team Europe making the finals was horrible for the tournament. They really don't have an identity, players from 10 countries with Canadian coaches? I don't know, I said from the start the patriotism is gone with these "all-star" teams in the mix. I really hope it's country vs country next time.

It's the WORLD Cup not an All Star game.

And even in 2014 they were missing Stamkos and Tavares. They're cruising through these tournaments even with injuries that would have crippled other nations.

TNA wrecked EUR twice (granted they were mostly all returning from qualifying matches the day before) and EUR is the one to make the finals. I have no doubt CAN would dismantle TNA, especially since they play similar possession offense with less defensive discipline, but it would have been glorious to watch.

Pierre Maguire was saying that he didn't leave people's radar, but rather he actually enjoys his position with Southampton in the EPL, which is why you see him crop up in these tournaments.

Yeah, I was thinking that. If the lines are

Marchand-Crosby-Bergeron
Tavares-Getzlaf-Stamkos
Couture-Toews-Perry
Duchene-Thornton-O'Reilly

Then you have a situation where three of Canada's lines have a Hart trophy winner and the one that doesn't has two finalists. I can't imagine that's ever been the case before.

I'll just put this here. Its a good history lesson of this tournament for those interested.

DOWN GOES BROWN: WHAT WAS THE BEST GAME 2 IN WORLD CUP HISTORY?

By: Sean McIndoe

Five out of seven World/Canada Cups have been best-of-three finals, so let's take a look back at those five games, and rank them from worst to best.

Tuesday night's Game 1 of the World Cup final, which saw Team Canada earn a 3-1 win over Team Europe, sets up a do-or-die Game 2 Thursday night. A Canada win would end the tournament, and the trophy will be in the building, unless the league has come to its senses and thrown that ugly thing into a raging bonfire instead.
There have been seven World and Canada Cups in international hockey history, but we didn't get to see a Game 2 in all of those. Twice, in 1981 and 2004, the format called for a one-game final. But it's been best-of-three in the other tournaments, which gives us five Game 2 to work with. So today, let's take a look back at those five games, and rank them from worst to best.

As always, this is opinion only, and if you disagree, then you're wrong.
