Tyler biggs is tossing bodies in his way. Biggs looks bigger and skating is much improved. He'll help oshawa next fall biggs-time.#tmltalk

To be fair, Paul Hendrick is a huge Leafs homer.

Yeah, but he's there and I'm here so while I take it with a grain of salt, I'm still rather encouraged by what he's saying.

I mean, I could be wrong but isn't he technically a club employee?

Usually there is one guy who shows up at camp a little under the radar and wows people, I wonder if it's Biggs turn this coming season.

You could be right, he certainly is coming in with the right attitude for that accomplishment.

Tyler Biggs is pumped for prospects camp.

The Cincinnati-born right winger will join the Toronto Maple Leafs other prospects at a summer training camp July 2-5 at MasterCard Centre for on-ice workouts as well as seminars on conditioning, media awareness, personal development and nutrition.

"It?s going to be another good experience, but I think it?ll be better the second time around," said Biggs, who attended last year?s camp. "I don?t think I?ll be in so much awe. With the comfort comes confidence and I think it just builds from there."

Biggs was drafted in the first round by the Maple Leafs, 22nd overall, in 2011 and played last season at the University of Miami (Ohio). In 37 games as a freshman he managed nine goals and 17 points with 63 penalty minutes. However, he has left the school with the notion of playing in the NHL next season. If he doesn?t crack the Leafs lineup, he has other options; namely either playing in the American Hockey League with the Marlies or the Ontario Hockey League with the Oshawa Generals.

"It was a good experience and I?m glad I went there," Biggs said of the University of Miami (Ohio). "It was a different style of hockey than what I was used to. Unfortunately my physical style of play did get called a lot and sometimes inconsistently, but that?s the way it goes sometimes. I had a lot of fun. I had great teammates and great coaches and I did become a better player."

The Leafs are on the lookout to get bigger and meaner next season and while GM Brian Burke has said that may require acquiring experienced players from other organizations through free agency and trades, Biggs would seem to be a perfect fit, even though he is only 19 years old.

Jim Hughes on Tyler Biggs. "He's a beast of a kid". Now listed at 218lbs.

(Lucic is listed at 220 lbs)

I really hope the Leafs don't start him with the Marlies just because he's physically ready. His offensive game would benefit greatly from being able to play in the OHL I think.

Probably since he works for LeafsTV, I don't expect him not to praise Leafs at camp. So whatever he reports I say "meh", believe it when I see it.

Yeah D'amigo really needed the OHL too.  Makes you wonder why they went NCAA route to begin with.

Isn't it about who he selects to praise out of 40+ players at this camp, some players are bound to impress and stand out above the others.

I agree with you and CTB.  Unless a player is a superstar, let them grow and develop in the league at their age/level so that they can play huge minutes in all situations and learn how to respond.  Keeping a lead or tying it up in the dying minutes of a 3rd period, playing on the PP or PK, etc.

I am hoping all the Leaf prospects are wanted by their CHL teams to play until they are 20 and then have chance to play a couple of years in the AHL and sp they can get acclimatized to the longer pro schedule and playing against stronger players before being brought to the NHL.

With Biggs in particular, I would rather have him dealing with some 17 year old punk in the CHL then John Erskine, Lucic or worse, a Brian McGratton, etc.

He was the Leafs first pick last draft so naturally Hendrick would try to praise him more.  Average fan has already heard of Biggs.

Didn't they pick Percy first?

Yeah, if hockey is your focus getting into a good hockey program should be the priority not getting into a good school.  CHL is the best youth hockey program in the world.  If getting good at hockey is your goal I don't see how you can turn that down.

I know Hendricks is a big homer, but I don't understand the scrutiny of his comment. All he basically said was Biggs is big and strong and should help out his junior team. It's not like he claimed he's the next coming of Bobby Clarke or Cam Neely.

Really? I mean, I took from that tweet he was guaranteeing Biggs to be a future hall of famer.  ::)  :o  ???

I guess some people didn't enjoy the weekend enough.
