With Mitchell gone for possibly the season I think and Green gone for the season for sure, LA Kings might have a use for Komisarek this season. If he keeps it simple and plays tough he would fit there and get bought out this summer.

A lot of teams could use Liles.

Edit....Actually I think to be bought out a player has to have been on the roster at the beginning of the season.  I can't remember though.

If by some fluke and the Leafs don't get Getzlaf as the number 1 center, who else could be viable?

Not alot of teams have decent depth at center.  Pittsburgh did ofcourse with Crosby, Malkin and Staal.  Who does now though?  Tampa Bay?  Edmonton?

colborne will probably be given a long look next year.

It would be real nice to see this kid come through the ranks and have a promising NHL rookie season next year. The Leafs could use a few more pleasant surprises like we've had with Kadri, Frattin and Gardiner. Apparently he looked good for the Marlies in their shoot out win the other day.

I've long believed MacArthur needs to be traded by this year's deadline, which was based on the fact that I did not see the team resigning him as he goes into this summer as an UFA.  But it's occured to me that his recent play and, more importantly, the way he's helped elevate Kadri's game, is so similar to the effect he had on Kulemin and, to a somewhat lesser extent, Grabovski, two years ago.  It's easy to overlook him, but MacArthur is a darned good player (Doug MacLean called him one of the league's best two way forwards, but that's a stretch IMO) who has the ability to makes those around him play better.

So if MacArthur is someone you hold on to, what does it take to resign him?  Where does he play going forward?  A more important question is whether Kadri's recent play is for real and whetehr he is bona fide 1A material.  To me, it darn sure looks that way.  So with these assumptions in mind, here's my 2013-14 lineup:

Clowe - Kadri - Perry
Lupul - Grabovski - JVR
Frattin - Colborne - MacArthur
Komarov - McClement - Orr / MacLaren
(MacArthur / Clowe interachangeable)

Phaneuf - Holzer
Franson - Gunnarsson
Gardiner - Fraser

*Kessel is traded for picks and prospects
** Bozak leaves UFA
***(Caveat alert) Corey Perry and Ryane Clowe sign as UFAs

Just a note, but I'm pretty sure he said "Leafs' best two-way forward."

You might be right, but I quite clearly heard him say "in the league".  The only qualifier that I may have missed was "right now".  An overly bold statement nonetheless, though I am high on MacArthur right now.

This is what he said and I'd be inclined to agree.  Doesn't take games off, plays with a lot of skill and generally pretty intelligently.  I like him a lot.

He definitely did say "in the league", and I definitely did a double-take when I heard it.

I wish McLean was GM of Detroit so that we could trade MacArthur for Datsyuk who is older and more expensive and NOT the best 2 way forward in the league.  :(

I don't believe you.

You're all lying! Because that's just goofy to say that when guys like Toews, Hossa, Datsyuk, etc. exist.

It's Doug Maclean. It's well within his level of insanity.

You're still dead to me.

Is it that hard to accept that we have good players, finally.

With the improvement in the level of play of Franson, I wonder if he's the best option to move?

Is he good? Sure. He's young, and offensively talented. His defense has been better but it's not a strength per say.

I'd move him and give the time to Gardiner. The return should be pretty good as well....

I'd move Kostka, he has really slowed down and come back to earth. He's a 6-7 guy on any other team IMO.

I think the Leafs have to move 2 defenders. We have too many and I believe that the majority would get snagged on waivers, other than Komisarek, which would need an okay to do.

Phaneuf, Gunnarsson, Franson, Fraser, Holzer, Gardiner and Liles are the guys I'd keep. What Nonis does is anyone's guess.
