Wilson fired, Randy Carlyle takes over

Bob McKenzie on Twitter:

Randy Carlyle is expected to be Wilson's replacement but if there are any complications on that front, Dallas Eakins is next in line.

I posted in the CHI GDT that I thought this might happen during this 2-day period before the MTL game, but to be honest I didn't really think it would.

At least we now know Burke isn't completely beholden to his pals.  But his reluctance to do this earlier may well have cost us a chance for the playoffs this year.  That is still very frustrating to me.

Dandy Randy. Boy, he's not gonna know what hit him once he gets behind the Leafs bench. :)

I'm OK with either Carlyle or Eakins.  Hopefully they can eke out a win over the Habs and then get a couple of days of practicing AN ACTUAL VIABLE SYSTEM OF DEFENDING AGAINST THE OPPONENT.

I think, and this may be wrong on my part, that the "Fire Wilson" chant doomed him. Not for the sentiment but I can't imagine Burke wanted that in the environment every time the team lost a home game. If fans had just been disinterested or just booed I bet Burke would have let Wilson finish the year.

I think that was a factor.  A GM cannot want a toxic atmosphere in the home rink when you've got a bunch of young guys who are already screwing up on their own.

EDIT: Nik, as thread originator can you change the thread title to reflect the ex-ness of Commander Ron?  I would relish that.  Cheers.  :)

If it is Carlyle doesn't that mean either that this has been in the works for a while or that Burke will be hiring a guy as head coach immediately?

Although I wasn't happy with some of Wilson's comments about the players, although many times it was true, it's the system they used that made me really question the coaching.
