I'd be so tempted to offer up Kessel to Phoenix for Domi. First big step in a rebuild.

I like Domi a lot, and I think he's going to be a very good NHL player (and, part of me feels like it's inevitable that he'll be a Leaf some day), but . . . no.

I've given up on the Leafs getting nice things as free agents.

Attendance for the Canada-USA game in Montreal was 18,295 #WorldJuniors[/quote]

How do you not sell that game out?

you freakin' have it in Montreal instead of Toronto. Jackasses.....

He's super skilled, but Max Domi looks, and was even acting tonight, like his meathead father and for that reason, I don't think I'll be ever to get myself to really like him.

Way to go, Canada, way to go!

Canada defeats the US 5-3 in a classic matchup that featured high-speed skating, skills, goals, some chippiness, and everything that makes a Canada-USA hockey matchup worth watching anytime!

Max Domi with 2, Reinhart, Morissey, Lazar had the other markers for Canada.

The big hype that pitted eligible #1 draft prospects Connor McDavid and the U.S.' Jack Eichel turned out to be much ado about, well, not much, with each player earning an assist for their respective squads.

It was Canada's other lines that did the damage as Team Canada not only outshot the US 43-28, giving US goaltender Thatcher Demko a hefty workout, but used their superb powerplay to quick advantage.

As for the US, as if being outshot and outskated was not enough, they rallied from behind especially in the dying minutes of the game, but fell short of the mark when Canada's empty netter put the victory in her hands for good.

By finishing atop in their group, Canada will now play Denmark in the quarter-final Friday.
The U.S. will play Russia.

In other action, Sweden beat Switzerland 5-1, while Finland beat Germany 2-0.
Sweden versus Finland for the quarter-final Friday.

Czech Republic 5-1 winners over Russia.  Will meet Slovakia in the quarter-final Friday, while Russia plays USA.

Germany/Switzerland will play in the relegation game.

I'm the same way. He is skilled, but he's a bit of a jerk too. I'll pick Reinhart. or Petan (sp?) as a favourite.

Definitely concede that. I wish he'd put his tongue away after a goal, it just bad sportsmanship.

I don't really understand this.  He's not pointing his tongue out at someone.  How is the tongue drop any worse than Jordon sticking his tongue out on a dunk.  Or a player doing an uppercut after a goal.  Or a player jumping into the boards. Etc.

Jordan did it out of a lifelong habit of emulating his father while woodworking, or something to that effect, and it wasn't done out of celebration.

I'm not a fan of ridiculously effusive goal celebrations, and Domi, waggling his tongue around, just comes off, to me, as looking like an asshat, and its not what I associate with Canadian international hockey class. But everyone draws the line of what they can appreciate individually.

As an aside, I remember watching one of the other countries games, where one of the forwards made two or three beautiful moves, and finished it off with a pass to the side of the net for a tap-in. Instead of going over to the passer, the tap-in guy skates right by him and his teammates to do a full quarter rink jump into the glass. Ugh.

Domi has done the tongue thing since he was a kid.  It's not a new thing for him.

So if he picked his nose as a kid, its a classy goal celebration now?

Domi's a teen having success in front of thousands of people, more than he's likely ever played in front of before, in a very high-pressure situation.

To me, who cares?  They're having fun.  I imagine this is another thing that the vast majority of actual players don't care about but fans/media like to fixate on.

I didn't think Canada looked dominant against the USA. They haven't really been tested outside that one game. At the same time we're pretty much guaranteed a spot in the final based on how the brackets fell this year (barring a massive meltdown).

They really shouldn't look dominant against the US.  The US is at least as good as Canada in junior hockey.  They have been for a few years now.  The World Juniors right now are still a 5-country tournament with Finland, Sweden, Russia, Canada and the US at the top.

In the last 10 years:
Canada - 5G 2S 1B
Czech - 0G 0S 1B
Finland - 1G 0S 1B
Russia - 1G 4S 4B
Sweden - 1G 4S 1B
USA - 2G 0S 2B

So long US. They tried to force a lot of stupid cross-ice passes in the offensive zone and took a ton of low percentage shots in the last 5 minutes.

There was a bit of a scrum after the game while the Russians were celebrating the win. Good on the Russian captain to hold his team back and keep things calm as his players started to realize there was some stuff going on away from the celebration.
