Sure, at the same time how are you supposed to know when to play with an edge or not if calls aren't consistent? I don't see how we can't be critical of the reffing in that kind of a situation.Stebro said:That's why you play with margins, especially at such an important part of the game, Canada lost this game due to bad discipline and average goaltending imo.Potvin29 said:Stebro said:You need to be smart as a player, it's a team game, even if you are annoyed and the refs don't see everything, you don't take that risk at this point of the game. Sometimes you gotta suck it up and be strong for the best of your team.
This just absolves the refs of any responsibility. Look, they chose to penalize Marner meanwhile off the very next whistle there was way worse stuff done.

We may as well criticize Sundin for never winning a cup then. It was a crap call. Irrelevant. Have some discipline.
You can absolutely be critical, but refs are refs, and as a player you need to take that into consideration. I thought that the Strome penalty was kind of weak too, imo it looked as if Strome was looking for that pp and "sold it", but it doesn't matter, players need to be smart. It's one thing if you do something like that when you're leading by 3 goals, or in the middle of the game, but you don't risk that late in the 3rd.Bender said:Sure, at the same time how are you supposed to know when to play with an edge or not if calls aren't consistent? And at the end of the day if what you call what Marner did as a punch then you may as well say any physical play should be penalized.

There are stupid calls pretty much 90% of all games played, smart players play with margins, and if you want to get the revenge, you are smart and do it while no one is watchingPotvin29 said:TML fan said:CarltonTheBear said:That "punch" happens probably 50 times a game. Come on.

That doesn't make sense. If it shouldn't be a penalty, why can't you do it? It's on the refs not to make stupid calls as much as it is on players not to take stupid penalties. You might as well not body-check then because the refs could find something to call if they wanted to. You could take that logic to many ridiculous lengths.

I'll state it again. he was the best player on the worst canadian team in 18 years. from the midpoint of the second this loss looked inevitable. we also suspected that this result would happen based on the round robin. there wasnt a hint of dominant play. he has alot of desire and skill. he wanted to own the puck for the whole shift. hes young but you hope that he uses his teammates to open up more ice.Bender said:We may as well criticize Sundin for never winning a cup then. I'm sorry but I watched every game. I did not see an overly selfish player. What I did see was a team that failed to click all toruney long with players like Strome, Marner and Barzal carrying the team. The goaltending was awful and the defense wasn't great either. I'm not about to criticize Strome for being on a losing team, so again, I really don't see how criticism of Marner being on a losing team is fair, especially today where the game wouldn't even have been close without him.

If he hits him in the chest it's a non-issue.
It was a cross check on the numbers. That's straight up illegal.Stebro said:You can absolutely be critical, but refs are refs, and as a player you need to take that into consideration. I saw a close shoulder to shoulder hit on Strome, but Strome saw him coming and turned away just before the hit, and it hit him between the back and shoulder.Bender said:It was a cross check on the numbers. Problem is Canada just hasn't been generating any good goalies lately. Blackwood had by far the best save percentage for goalies in the OHL this season.
Yeah you can only pick from what you have. There's not much there.
