Kudos to Holland.  In regulation play, they are unbeaten plus this third place finish was their best World Cup position since losing in the WC Final in '78.

Feel bad for Brazil.  They should have tried to salvage some pride but then again, they just seemed so lacking without Neymar & Silva.  Whatever happened to the Brazilian style of teams past?  This one certainly doesn't carry it.

Hup Holland!  Well done!

Well except for their 2nd place finish in South Africa, right?

Huh, huh.

This was classy: (from the article):

The Brazilian fans loudly greeted the Dutch players after they received the third-place medals, applauding on their feet.

"I would like to thank all people in Brazil for their great support," Arjen Robben said. "For us it was the best way to end this tournament. We fully deserved third place the way we played. It's a very big achievement."

guessing it will be a tight low scoring affair today.. Im good with either winning.. I think Germany had a little tougher schedule along the way

Congratulations germany.

I thought they were the more open minded team in the game and really showed to want to attack the Argentines. Surprisingly for the whole tournament the Argentine defense was rock solid. Furthermore they broke through the germans for four glorious scoring chances but could not apply the finishing blow.  Lovely finish by Goetze and the more entertaining team won. Loved this tournament for all the new faces. The costa ricans, columbians and chileans were fun teams to watch.

Herzlichen Gl?ckwunsch Deutsch!  (Congratulations Germany!)

Germany played well.  So did Argentina. The difference was narrow but it was the Germans who played it precisely with that window of opportunity and scored.

The  Argentinians had their chances and Messi had that chance to make something out of that last minute  -- the ball| was sent way too high, over the top.

All in all, great  overall World Cup tournament. Ol?, ol? Brasil.  Ciao!

You missed a pretty important detail in your cut a paste job there...

After finishing runner-up in 2010, the third place is the best position for the Dutch squad since it lost the final in 1974 and 1978.

Yes, of course!  (I previously acknowledged that in response to someone else's question).  For your information I did not paste anything, just the link to the game story.  Read the article for complete details.

CSA (Canadian Soccer Association) will be bidding for 2026 World Cup:
(note: the following was written before the WC Final

FIFA organizers say Canadians bought more than 29,000 tickets to World Cup matches, outranking all other nations that didn?t qualify for the Cup and behind only 10 nations that did.

Canada was also the top non-competing nation in attendance at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, officials say.

Where else in the world can you go to bars to watch every game and have people from the competing countries cheering on their team?? said British-born Scott Parr,30...Here, it?s so fun because there are rabid fans for every game, not just for one team or game. If I watched it in Australia, after the Australian game was over, the excitement would have likely been over, too.

In January, the Canadian Soccer Association announced that it will bid for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Its chances of winning, given its lack of stadium infrastructure, are slim, analysts say.

Canada?s chances could soon get a boost when it hosts the 2015 Women?s World Cup.

Hosting the World Cup would mean an automatic spot for Canada, which has only qualified once ? in 1986. Organizers hope it would spark a transformation similar to that in the U.S. after it hosted the tournament in 1994, giving Canada?s diverse population a chance to become competitive at the world?s most popular sport.

?This is one of the most multicultural countries in the world,? said Globe and Mail journalist John Doyle, who just returned from Brazil after covering the first half of the World Cup.
