World Cup 2014

I see the definition of Brazilian is the same for my wife as it was for their soccer team, walking in all confident with swagger, walked out injured and ashamed... shhhhhh

This would be an excellent time for Canada to launch a surprise invasion of Brazil.  Ninety percent of the population has committed suicide over the past six hours, so you could pretty much just walk right in and take over.  There's enough land down there so that every Canadian citizen could be given a free beachfront villa.

What a disaster. I don't think losing Neymar hurt Brazil as much as losing Silva at the back did - that was schoolboy defending. They just fell apart after the Muller goal opened the scoring. I feel bad for the little kids they were showing crying in the stands - nothing like experiencing the crushing lows of being a sports fan at 8 years old.

You mean like being a Leafs fan?

Now if Netherlands wins tomorrow it would assure a european world cup win in south america.

That would make a statement for the European game over it's
South American counterpart.

A Germany- Holland WC Final I'm eagerly anticipating.

Brazil's' Scolari:
"The German quality is very, very high," Scolari said. "This is not normal."

'Scuse me, but what isn't normal is his statement!  The German quality is just fine, the Brazilian not so much, actually, not at all!

It would also be the third straight all European World Cup final.

Best moment of the day

Brazilian fans inside the stadium gave Miroslav Klose a standing ovation when he was subbed out in the second half, recognizing his efforts in breaking Ronaldo?s all-time tournament scoring record.

The day after...

Didn't much like the Brazilians in this tournament.  They were not a good team defensively, even from the first game against Croatia.  That said all the Germany praise is a little bit overblown.  They were solid for the 2-0 lead as the Brazilians were struggling to defend, but everything from that point on was a training exercise.  The Brazilians were having a nervous breakdown on a world stage.  The team totally fractured, some players stopped, others tried to do it all themselves.  4 goals in six minutes, that doesn't happen to a world class team that still has their mental composure.  So it's lovely to heap the praise on Germany, but they struggled against Ghana, barely beat the USA,  they weren't dominant against Algeria.  If they win it will be because of their goalie.  He's been the best one of the tournament.

Not having Neymar nor their captain & best defender Silva was enough to give
this Brazilian team a state of (mental) fragility and zero confidence.  As it could be seen, once Germany took the lead, Brazil failed to either change tactics or have an alternate plan. The fact that Scolari takes full responsibility for this tells us something.

Still, no one could ever have envisioned a 7-1 rout.  A loss, perhaps yes, but a rout, no.

Doe-doei Netherlands, hup hup.

Interesting to hear the post game on this one.  This wasn't the game i expected from the dutch at all.  It felt like they weren't willing to go for it.

Robben could've had a couple goals but went back to his hold-the-ball-for-a-second-too-long-or-an-extra-touch self.

Also felt that many were afraid to take shots/chances toward the end of the extra frames.

Anyway they didn't score for 240 mins (plus extra time) straight. It's rare that you make the world cup final on the back of a stat like that.

for a team who's coach seemed to go on and on about how they shouldn't have to play in that game, the players sure seemed happy enough to score those goals.

Ouch for Brazil as they lose back to back on home soil for the first time since 1940 and give up 10 goals in just two games.

love seeing Brazil lose again.. Tomorrow should be fun.. I think I'd like to see the Germans win but I also like Messi so Id have no issues with argentina winning.. It has been an excellent world cup and I for one am sad to see it come to an end.. Well now back to the English Premier league

Kudos to Holland.  In regulation play, they are unbeaten plus this third place finish was their best World Cup position since losing in the WC Final in '78.

Feel bad for Brazil.  They should have tried to salvage some pride but then again, they just seemed so lacking without Neymar & Silva.  Whatever happened to the Brazilian style of teams past?  This one certainly doesn't carry it.

Hup Holland!  Well done!

Well except for their 2nd place finish in South Africa, right?

Silva played. He was only suspended for 1 match. Wonder when the Brazilian football summit will be?
