World Cup 2014

Still scoreless between Algeria & Germany...winner gets France in QF#3...what an upset it would be if Germany losses...and another huge boost to Holland's World Cup aspirations

"Canada-Lite", eh?!  Funny article...

And another extra time game with Belgium - US. American goalie has been incredible. Belgium scored two in the first half of extra time, but the Americans have roared back to score one and are all over them right now.

The U.S. media will give them a lot of grief for losing, but damn do they deserve credit for refusing to lie down at 2-0.

The heart they showed was really amazing to watch, the stuff they make sports movies about.

I was cheering for Belgium to win but by the end of the game I was wishing the americans could have pulled it back. What a performance by Howard. 27 shots on net!  It was a like a hockey game out there.

Belgium came out 'roaring' by pounding U.S, 'keeper Tim Howard with as many shots as they could lay at him.  The Belgians, oft-criticized for their low-scoring approach, decided to turn loose against the Americans.

But, alas, it took the extra time to get it done.  The U.S, didn't seem to muster much in the way of offence, but came to life in extra time.  As they say, too little though, too late.

I don't understand why the U.S. seemed to sit back so much during that entire second half.  If they had played with the type of urgency they showed when they were down 2-0, it might have been a different result.

I think they were probably playing for penalty shots.  when they got down 2-0 there was no reason to hold anything back anymore, also I have a feeling that the Belgium team, up 2-0, may have let their foot off the gas a bit thinking the game was definitely now over.  Anyway it made for an exciting end, it's too bad they weren't able to get back to level.

Down memory lane... I remember I was overseas watching the '86 World Cup and that famous "Mano de Dios" of Diego Maradona fame.

The following  is an article chronicling the '86 Canadian WC team as the players, some 30 years or so later, still proudly recall their time there.

Au revoir france...Germany moves on in a 1-0 win.  With that germany apparently sets a record for the most consecutive semi final appearances.

Yeah 4 straight World Cups now...pretty impressive how they're always up there.

Tough loss for Les Bleus as they couldn't get their attacking game going against precise Germany.  This was a rematch 32 years in the making -- the last time these two met was in '82.
