World Juniors 2021

Just saying who I like calling the games. Hughson and Simpson don't work for TSN either...they suck.

I misunderstood then.

I thought "Throw in Cuthbert when Miller can't go" meant that TSN had that option and you were comparing them to Sportsnet.

For the nerds

Amirov had a bit of a coming out game today. Podkolzin getting a lot of the love but Amirov is putting together a good little tournament. Beyond the scoresheet he just looks like a kid who does a lot of little things well. Seems like a swiss army knife who can play up and down the lineup and play in different situations.

He's a very good prospect. You notice him on the ice. I also liked Abramov's game. Another 200' player. Looking forward to the Finn/Can game today. We have 3 good ones there also.

I feel like my enthusiasm for this tournament declines as I age. Especially the more and more TSN hypes it up as a big deal in the way that sports channels seem obligated to do with everything these days. You're watching kids, most of whom haven't made any money yet representing their countries so it's really hard for me to be invested in who wins or loses.

I still get it from a "scouting" perspective and how it can be fun to see some of these guys we've only heard of but I wish it felt less like big business.

Me too. I still reflexively get excited in late December when I realize the World Juniors are coming up, but then the excitement dies down by the time the games come around. It doesn't help that things get rolling with some boring one-sided blowouts.

I think to some extent the vast extent of prospect and draft awareness and information takes away some of the national "ownership" (for lack of a better word) I feel for Canadian players. When I was young and watching the Juniors, it was just about rooting for my team of Canadian players. Now I'm acutely aware of how on Team Canada this guy belongs to the Kings, and that guy belongs to Anaheim, and we were hoping that other guy would fall to the Leafs in the draft but he didn't, etc. I'd actually rather watch Finland than Canada because of it.

One of the things that did it for me was that year where it was revealed that the Kazakhstan team didn't even have enough stick tape. I obviously like Canadian hockey but hearing things like that kind of makes you think that we are sort of the bad guys from the Mighty Ducks in this tournament.

I was looking for a photo of the drowning international Olympic swimmers "from countries without pools" from the same Simpsons episode but came up dry.

CAN-FIN is a bit more one sided than I expected.
I guess we shouldn't have expected different. I mean they have said this is one of the most loaded teams ever with what 19 1st round picks?
I still have liked Topi's game.

I wish the leafs were able to draft some of these Canadian defencemen.

This has been total domination for the most part of a pretty good team. I think they said earlier that the Finns lead the tournament in shots on goal.

Which D men? I think we got a good one who plays for the Finn's lol.

Looks like Topi is going to the top of the list on our D prospects.

There was one year the Leafs had almost the entire team Canada defence corps, and it didn?t exactly turn out fantastically.

I thought he played well in the loss to Canada. I like Kokkonen's game as well.

Behind Sandin of course, who had 10pts last year.
