The Islanders are trying to bring back Yashin and now Nabakov will agree to join the team?!

They are reportedly offering $2M to Yaahin, and, as for Nabokov, it's doubtful the Islanders will keep him, there may be a slight possibility that would depend on the health of DiPietro.  Nabokov's agent, Don Meehan, has stated that Nabokov will definitely play in the NHL but did not speculate any further.

i have read that Chris Campoli would like to be a Leaf. Does anyone have a link to the article where he said this to a reporter? or is it just an opinion?

I guess signing him for cheap would offer trade flexibility or defensive depth ( 19 minutes a night last year,  he can play ) but I have trouble seeing where he fits on the Leaf roster currently.

I haven't seen a direct quote either.

Yeah, there's already 8 NHL ready players on the blueline at present. Plus, he's pretty much a very-poor man's version of Liles.

And by poor man's version we mean like a beat up, rundown, rusting 1995 Hyundai Accent.

Is this a good or bad thing? They get a younger player in Hunter but other than that?...

I think it's win, win.  Players are pretty much a write off in terms of talent.

It helps both teams with their respective cap situations.

Granted Hunter is younger.

See, I appreciate the deal works for each team's cap situation but couldn't have Snow got a more usefull player with a higher hit for Hunter? I'm not sure what (if anything) is left in Rolston's tank.

Yeah, I don't really get the OMG either. Hunter has had a bunch of lousy seasons in a row and is owed(and counts for) 4 million over the next two years. Rolston is older but has been more productive as of late and counts for 5 and change over one season. The Devils free up some space this year which will help to get Parise signed but aside from planning to demote Hunter(which they couldn't do with Rolston, if I remember correctly) they don't really save anything.

The Islanders, who need to hit the cap floor, get a veteran guy who adds leadership and experience and who can occasionally pop in the odd goal.

Realistically, what sort of value does Hunter have if he's a 31 year old who's five years removed from his last 20 goal season and has missed 113 games over the last three years? Rolston's a big hit but one that the Isles can walk away from after this year.

I understand the long tradition of ripping on the Isles but this doesn't really fit in with that at all.

Hunter (in my mind) is a decent bottom 6 player. Rolston? I'm not sure what he is anymore. Or, even if he belongs in the league at this point. That is my issue with the deal from the Isles perspective.

Over the last three years Rolston's scored 49 goals in 209 games, or 19 goals over a 82 game span(and last year he was at 18/82). He's also seen some PK time for the Devils over that stretch(More than Hunter has when he's been semi-healthy).

So a guy who can score at a near 20 goal pace and is versatile enough to be used in all situations probably has a place in this league. Add in the leadership/experience and the big, short term cap hit and he can be a good fit for the Islanders.

Again, how much value does a "good bottom 6" player have if he can't stay in the line-up much?

I think people are judging this based on the Hunter of old.

In the last three seasons...

Hunter - 133 GP - 26 Goals - 37 Assists - 63 Points - -8

Rolston - 209 GP - 49 Goals - 54 Assists - 103 Points - -2

I mean it's hardly Bobby Orr for Brett Lebda here and if you factor in the Isles desire for Salary, I fail to see how this is not at the very least a win/win.

Honestly, Rolsron's numbers don't impress me at all. He's how many years removed from a 40 pt. season? 4? I wouldn't be shocked to see the two players put up similar numbers this year. I'd say Hunter is probably the better all around player at this point and therefore, of more "value" than Rolston. - Especially considering the salary.
