Boston vs. Buffalo could be, uh, fun tonight.

I'm expecting a tame, disappointing game that doesn't live up to the hype (as these games rarely do) and, hopefully, ends in regulation.

As a Leaf fan, I'm hoping for a dirty, dirty game that results in many lasting injuries to critical players.

You never want to see players hurt but Vanek is challenging Kessel for the scoring race...

One more from coach Ruff on Sabres: "This is a great opportunity for us to make a statement."

Ruff on Lucic hit: "I'll answer the question one more time. We were real disappointed in our response. That won't happen again."

I'd like to see Lucic get what's coming to him but I'm really fearful of this getting really ugly and way to out of hand.  :-\

It would be hilarious if Lucic ran Enroth, knocked him out of the game, and the Sabres still did nothing.  Ruff would eat his mustache.

Don Cherry Parody:

YKNOW THE NHL SHOULD SUSPEND THE WHOLE BUFFALO SABER TEAM FER NOT RIPPIN LOOCHICKS HEAD OFF AFTER HE CRASHED INTA THEIR GOALER!

Carolina dmen scoring:
Rk Player          Pts
1 Jay Harrison 9
2 Joni Pitkanen 8
3 Tomas Kaberle 5
4 Tim Gleason 5
5 Jamie McBain 5
6 Bryan Allen 4

Who here would have picked exLeaf Jay Harrison to be leading his team in dman scoring when Pitkanen, Kaberle & Gleason were on the roster?

Always liked his personality and how he handled himself. Good for him (not that I expect it will last).

One more point and he'll already have matched his personal best.

To be fair Gleason is not and has never been known as an offensive defensemen. Whats up with Kaberle?

Gleason's offensive ability was fairly well respected when he was drafted as I recall - much more than Jay Harrison's.

EDIT: .71 career ppg in the OHL vs .40 ppg

I'm not sure what's going on with Tomas.

Oh, I'm hoping for all out warfare that leaves both teams decimated (though, my fantasy team would appreciate it if Tim Thomas was left unscathed), but, just not expecting it.

Look out! It's Chara!!... and he's got a gun!!!

Signing in Carolina was a pretty strange move.

Signing in Carolina was a pretty strange move.

The strange thing to me is that he was cruising along as a .60+ ppg dman in Toronto (.68ppg since the lockout - one of the top five scoring dmen in the league over that time).

A key moment was when Wilson got on his case in Jan '10 and cut his ice time when he was close to a ppg but the rest of the team was struggling to score. He was never the same after that though he had declined a little from his peak years - including his skating.

But to go to Boston and Carolina and basically dry up doesn't make sense to me. Couldn't see that coming to the degree that it has.

There were rumours of family problems and that also might have something to do with this.

In Rutherford's defence, to get the best bang for his buck, spending on a good goalie, a top center (good centers) and a couple of good offensive D is a really smart place to spend to get the most out of a roster.

Maybe this whole trade rumour stuff that went on for ages took his heart out of the game. To a degree, I think that happened to Sundin as well when he tried to play for the Canucks though in Sundin's case his hip injury and age had caught up to him more.

It's a sad way to see him finish his career if that's all he's going to provide the Canes.

Wild to dress 51-year-old goalie
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=602911
In need of a backup for Josh Harding, the Wild signed Deutsch, a 51-year-old who runs a screen printing and embroidery store in Richfield, Minn., as the emergency goaltender. As per League rules, the Wild were forbidden from signing a goalie with professional experience, so Deutsch signed his ATO on Wednesday.

Deutsch is a good friend of former assistant Mike Ramsey and has been used in many practices when one of the top goalies gets an off day.

Seems kind of crazy.

Ville Leino:
20GP, 5pts, (.25 ppg)
only 16 shots,
team worst -6,
39.7 faceoff win% (from a guy they intended to use at center)

Leino Faces Ruff Road
Leino, 28, spent much of Saturday's loss to Florida on the bench. He played a little more than 2 minutes, 30 seconds in each of the second and third periods. Leino's total ice time was 9:35, the third lowest on the team that game. Yet, he is the third highest-paid player on a traditionally small-market Buffalo team, which under new owner Terry Pegula, is suddenly spending as much as the Flyers.

So they tried:
Sabres hope move to top line spurs struggling Leino

then:
Patience gives way to frustration
Miller was gone before Leino had a chance to show what he could do between Vanek and Pominville. The line was intact for three shifts, maybe four, when Ruff summoned rookie Luke Adam to pivot his top-scoring wingers.
...
And they still haven't found a home for Leino, who was playing against his former team for the first time since signing a six-year deal for $27 million.

For what it's worth, the Sabres knew they overpaid for him when they signed him. Such was the price if Buffalo intended to land unrestricted free agents after years of recruiting problems. Leino claimed Wednesday he's been unaffected by the pressure, but Ruff hinted otherwise. Leino grumbled about his ice time. Ruff is demanding the forward conforms to the Sabres' style.

It's going to take time.

Not a good start to that contract.

Speaking of bad contracts, apparently DiPietro was booed when he was announced as the starter tonight.

Bryzgalov was yanked after 3 goals on 9 shots.

Jagr apparently has a groin injury. #oldballs

Love the hash tag

Dipietro's best save% for a NHL season before they signed him to that $67 mil deal was .911 and he had only reached .900 (exactly) once before.

The first year of his current crazy deal, he hit .919 (less than Reimer last year) and he hasn't been above .902 save% since - mostly below .900.

He was a promising goalie but from what I've read, he's a physical wreck now with bad knees:
