DGB posted this article from Bill Simmons, thought it was excellent.

If nothing else, Leafs fans are characterized as "insanely bitter".

Nice article.  And yeah, that was a throwaway line.  Worthy of his cousin Steve, maybe, but not him.

I didn't take offense. Outside of the obvious and purposeful exaggeration of "insanely" there's truth there. I might not use bitter to describe fans in terms of outlook(I'd go with healthy cynicism) but in terms of the past? I think bitter is fair adjective if the subject is Ballard or Kerry Effin' Frasor or not signing Gretzky.

Good for Craig MacTavish. He's back with the Oilers as Sr VP of Hockey Ops.

The Oilers sure do love bringing back players from their glory days and giving them important positions in management that they may or may not be qualified for.

Yeah, "may or may not" is the key there... I didn't offer an opinion of the hire because I really don't have one... I have no idea if he's qualified or not.

Does this make him one of Tambellini's bosses?

No matter who the Oilers take this summer, be it Yakupov or Murray, how long can they keep that core team together realistically? Three years definitely, maybe five if one or two take discounts on their first post elc deal?

Hall
RNH
Eberle
MPS
Yakupov
Some other quality prospects in the system ala Klefbom.

I don't see it being that hard. I mean none of those guys, as of right now, should be looking for max money. Even if you figure on 7 apiece for Hall, Eberle and RNH when they sign extensions(and that seems pretty high) then they still have cap room. MPS hasn't shown he'll get huge money.

If the Oilers continue to stink and stay near the bottom of the league, they can probably keep that team together for a long time!

NJD had until 5pm Tue to decide on forfeiture of 1st round pick (Kovalchuk discipline). They opted not to forfeit and will hold the pick.

What the fudge?  So they decided to hang on to this years #29 pick and forfeit next years pick?  Which could conceivably be anywhere... heck even possible a top 10-15 pick if Parise leaves and Marty regresses, etc.

Some good thoughts were noted on this last night here.... Either the pick is in play in a trade or Jersey is going to draft one of the top goalies in that spot.

It must be or that decision looks unwise. They must like somebody in that range.
