2011-2012 NHL Thread

A few people on twitter have suggested that perhaps Lou will be looking for some type of amnesty during the CBA negotiations that will allow them to keep next years pick.  Don't see it happening myself.

No way that happens. LouLam is smarter than that. He wants to do something with this pick, that's the only reason it wasn't forfeited.

SportsnetSpec: Referee Stephane Auger retires. 13 seasons, 730 regular season games, 10 playoff games. Burrows scrape his most notorious moment by far.

The first bit of good news from the off season. One of the worst refs in the league has "retired."

13 seasons and he only reffed 10 playoff games?  I guess someone knew he was no good.

From the sounds of it, it's a forced retirement.

Dreger speculating that Garrison is going to get 5 years and 25 million as a UFA.

I swear to god these GM's need to be protected from themselves.

I hope he signs with the Canucks like he's expected to. ;D

Dreger still pushing this Garrison 5x5 nonsense, I wonder if he gets a kickback from the agents. :D

Would it really surprise you though? Finger got 4/14 after one pretty good season. Garrison just had a very good year.

Surprising? No.

Crazy? Absolutely.

Also, Tim Thomas has waived his NTC so that Boston can trade him, but insists he won't play this year, very strange.

While I don't really want to defend the Blue Jackets here, the scouts weren't really fired. Their contracts were expiring June 30th and they were told they weren't being renewed. Still, a little odd considering the timing.

WSH will make formal announcement in about 30 minutes that Adam Oates is the new coach of the Capitals. Just as @DarrenDreger reported.

The BJs fired 4 scouts right after the draft.  That franchise is a mess. Watch them screw up the Nash deal too.

its ... The Scott Howsen Way.

What a clown college they are.

Rick Dudley would have been a respectable upgrade for them. I'm sure they could find someone better.

NHL and NHLPA just announced 2012-13 salary cap floor and ceiling: $54.2 million at the bottom and $70.2 million at the top.

That floor is crazy high.  Some of Burke's albatross contracts may suddenly be moveable.

I said some. :P

Nashvile has $22 mil to spend to reach the floor, with Weber to sign still.

There's pretty much no way the new CBA doesn't change that.
