I'm not watching the game tonight, but does anyone know why Buehrle was yanked after giving up 2 runs on 4 hits over 6 innings, only 78 pitches and a 6-2 lead? I buy Gibby's reasoning for doing it in the Yankee game, but here too?

That Oriole lineup historically has destroyed Buerhle and Buerhle had made it through a couple of jams unscathed. I guess Gibbons just didn't want to push his luck.

Noah Syndergaard makes his much anticipated debut for the Mets tonight, just in case people wanted a reason to feel lousy.

Jays fans don't need to look very far for reasons to feel lousy.

As for Jay draft picks excelling in other markets, I see your Syndergaard and raise you a Jake Marisnick.

And I'll just watch Jeff Hoffman's curveball.

I horribly disagree with that mentality.  Buehrle wasn't getting nailed.  He was he's a contact hitter who inherently is going to give up hits.  It's standard John Gibbons pitcher management.

What's "standard John Gibbons pitcher management"?

Seemed to me like he took him out because Osuna had already warmed up, Jays took the lead in the meantime during a long offensive inning, didn't want to waste Osuna for a day and Buehrle could leave on a high note after having a tough start to the season.

But even if that's 100% wrong, doesn't seem like a big deal either way.  Bullpen's been dealing lately. That's not even getting into whether Buehrle is a bit banged up (even if he flatly denies it).

I mean within the same game he's responsible for this:

With the game tied at two, thanks to Edwin Encarnacion?s first opposite field home run of the night in the top of the inning, Manny Machado led off the bottom of the sixth with a double. Mark Buehrle worked a six-pitch strikeout of Jimmy Paredes, but still needed to get through Adam Jones and Delmon Young to escape with the game tied. Gibbons elected to walk Jones, Young hit into a double play, and in the top of the next inning the Jays would finally unknot the game as the slowly unravelling Chris Tillman gave up a hit to Ryan Goins ? his third on a three-hit night that had the astonishingly ridiculous idea that he ought to supplant Jose Reyes on the lips, the Twitter fingers, and in the microphones (be serious, Jerry!) of too, too many people ? and a single from Josh Donaldson to score pinch runner Devon Travis (who entered the game on second base after Justin Smoak hit a double play ball that snuffed out Goins at second, but was thrown to first errantly, allowing the Vulture to advance an extra 90 feet).

Jays sign Luke Scott to minor league deal. Still no word on whether they will acquire an actual quality pitcher.

Great start by Sanchez last night, though you could see he was losing effectiveness late in his outing (2 hits in the 6th, 2 walks and a hit in the 7th, a walk and a hit in the 8th before being pulled). I figured he was done after the 7th, but Gibby saw otherwise. Hindsight and all that.

Another day, another loss. This time it was the bullpen blowing the save with Delabar giving up a 2-run double in the 7th. On the plus side, another decent start, this time by Hutchison going 6 2/3.

Sad fact...

Toronto's relievers also have allowed 40.6 percent of inherited baserunners to score, which is the most in the Major Leagues.

Complete game by Dickey last night in an 8-4 Jays win. Three good starts in a row by the pitching staff - hopefully things are starting to turn around a bit!

Note that I heard a couple interesting stats during the radio broadcast last night (feel free to correct me if I misremember). Jays are 2-8 in one run games, and 1-17 when they score 3 runs or less. I don't necessarily expect winning records in both those categories, but it would be nice if they showed some improvement if they want to actually compete for a playoff spot.

By the looks of tonight's starting lineup (5 career minor leaguers and a bench player), I'm not sure management even wants to compete.

As for a playoff spot, it's not going to happen. The Leafs are more likely to make the playoffs before this Jays team.

Toronto has awful pitching. That sad fact was apparent before the season started.

The sad fact is that it has to continue.  Or does it?  Well, let's hope, as someone mentioned, a turnaround is in the offing.

It isn't. They have a starting rotation full of #4, #5 and #6 pitchers and the bullpen sucks.

Donaldson and Bautista with great nights last night. Josh went 4 for 4 with a walk, 5 runs scored and 4 rbi, and Jose went 3-4 with 5 rbi. Even Thole went 3-4. The only negative was the pitching - two more blown saves by the bullpen (although I don't know why they should get a blown save in the 6th inning - it isn't like Loup was going to pitch the final four innings or anything).

Too bad about the Jays today. Donaldson homered in the bottom of the 9th off Robertson for the 2nd game in a row to tie the game 3-3, but then Osuna came in and had his worst game as a Blue Jay giving up 2 runs on 3 hits. They put the tying run on with one out in the bottom of the 10th, but couldn't do anything about it. To the road!

How sweep it is!  Take that Astros!...

The Jays took Jon Harris, a college righty, with their 1st round pick. Described as a "steal" and ranked by some in the top 10 of the draft

It looks like the Blue Jays also picked him in the 33rd round in 2012, but he opted for college and didn't sign back then.
