Literally the only man working the hockey beat this time of year?

I'm expecting a standard very long term underpay by Nashville. 4.25/8?

Balls.

Speaking of balls, did you happen to hear Justin Bourne on the PDO-Cast recently?

You get a bit of insight into what it is that has held your boy Griffiths back.

I put quite a bit of stock in what he was saying, to look at Griffiths that closely and share the opinion he did was a little surprising, especially since I know he isn't just an eye-test guy.

Yes I did :'(

He also said when Griffith was on, it was like he was using a cheat code, which I definitely saw. But he was a turnover machine and was routinely knocked off his game. I wondered briefly if it was one of those situations where Griffith would be better served playing with elite players who also think the game at cheat levels. It wouldn't bother me to see him get that sort of leash in Buffalo. Oh wells.

Bourne did say that his video work with the Marlies taught him to really try to take in as much information as he could (eyes and stats). I'm looking forward to hearing more from him as his role at The Athletic kicks in mid August.

Bourne's Systems Analyst posts over at theScore were probably my favourite hockey media feature out there at the time. Really looking forward to him writing again.

Just to demonstrate what 4.25M in a nearly no income tax state can get you:

Happy Shark Week, friends!

And Austin Watson got 3 years/3.3 per. That seems like a lot for a guy who's scored 9 times in 140 games

The Senators signed Johnny Oduya? That's something I suppose.

Well someone needs to slow Karlsson down.

I think this is 3 years 1.1M AAV, because a GM who signs him to 3.3 AAV should be fired.

You are correct on that one. I misread.

I misread the initial NHL.com headline as well. It looks like they edited it.

I still don't know who that guy is...I think NHL.com might have fabricated him.

Ryan Johansen re-signs, 8 years/8 per.

That's surprisingly... fair. Other than that weird Nick Bonino deal, Nashville's cap allotment looks magnificent.

$8mil feels like a tad much to me but I guess when you have as many terrific contracts as Nashville does you can swallow it a lot easier. He's certainly the type of player who an overpayment seems justified for.
