Someone help me. I'm not sure what to do. One of my teams winnning a title and the internet exists. This is very new.

See, this is the thing: if the Leafs ever win it all there will be a massive discombobulation/letdown amongst the base.  When you're conditioned to lose, winning is itself a loss because you lose the losing you've learned to love.

Was that helpful?

Only in testing the limits of joy. Right now I can't even be annoyed by you.

Admittedly, not a huge basketball fan, but I have watched more basketball this year then ever before.  Very cool to see the Raptors win it all.  I can't help but think that after seeing just how many people were at the viewing parties across Canada that the Raptors may have passed the Leafs in popularity.

It?s far more accessible for youth ($ vs $$$$$$$) and the players have actual personalities (see Soccer) and there are scoring plays every half minute or so where skill is generally rewarded (not soccer). It?s far and away more culturally inclusive and the Raptors are a national rather than regional team. People in Vancouver, Montreal, and Ottawa are cheering for a ?Toronto? squad.

They don?t really get into fights about whether stats and analysis are useful either; teams just leverage it to improve their respective on court product and tactics.

I think these are the two biggest factors to be honest.

I played a bit when I was at school and watched quite a lot (the NBA was on a free to air channel on TV here and you had the likes of Rodman and other such personalities around) and it had me hooked for a while.

But I found the ease of scoring actually made it a bit boring to watch unless it was a close game in the last few minutes and I wasn't really particularly invested in a team at that point as I was in most other sports. It's a different experience to attend a game, though.

I agree with the frequent scoring thing personally, Arn. I know others feel soccer/football/hockey/baseball are a bit boring for rarity of scoring.

Up until games 5 & 6 of the finals, I didn?t watch a game entirely. I just pipped in for the last 8 min of Q4 and that was just pure excitement or a foregone conclusion.

In the early 90's I was sort of caught up in the monster machine that was the Chicago Bulls, with Jordan, Rodman, Pippen and Co.

It always felt like every game was so close, that the game is really decided in the last minute which always felt like watching the other 47 minutes was a waste of time.

I was all in at the beginning and especially during the Carter years. I gave up on basketball when Vince quit on Toronto and Antonio Davis said he didn't want his kids to go to school in Canada. I was tired of the narrative and truth that players didn't want to play in Canada at that time and concluded there is no way in hell they would ever be successful and stopped watching.

Thank you to Lowry and Derozen for changing that narrative and choosing to stay in Toronto. Thank you Masai Ujiri for building a winner and allowing Toronto/Canada to showcase its self. Hopefully, this momentum allows the franchise to solicit UFA's more easily going forward.

Winning cures all sorts of stuff.
