2019-2020 NHL Thread

Due to remaining unsigned RFAs by their teams, both Jesse Puljujarvi and Julius Honka are ineligible to play in the NHL this season.

I can't find the ex-Leafs thread.  Anyway Stajan officially retired from pro hockey

I remember wishing Stajan was just a slightly better hockey player last season so he could have had a swan song final season with the Leafs last year instead of going out to Germany. Too bad.

Fun fact: he played on a team with another former Leaf, John Mitchell, in Germany last year. Mitchell was 1st in scoring, Stajan was 3rd.

edit: also their starting goalie's name was Danny Aus Den Birken which rules.

The Honka one is kinda bizarre. Presumably neither party is all that interested in having Honka on the Dallas Stars. So the Stars are essentially blocking him from the NHL because... what? They're being offered 7th round picks instead of 5th round picks? Like what could be holding up a trade here?

I'm more surprised that I didn't know about them being unsigned until Dec 1st.

As we've seen in the Babcock/Peters/Crawford situation which had been mentioned or reported on for the past 4+ years, the Toronto hockey media is a huge weapon.

Nylander v. Honka though is a pretty massive difference.

I went to see them last season. Munich is a fantastic city and the DEL is possibly my favourite league to watch in person. The fans are insane.

Calgary is in the midst of a budget crisis, and has spent months debating and rejigging its budget. The city, for example, just raised property taxes and siphoned $24-million from its rainy day fund, but will still lay off municipal employees and reduce services.

But, yeah, spend 300 million dollars on a hockey arena to the benefit of its billionaire owners. Good job Calgary.

This reminded me to check in on how Marleau's season has gone. I knew he scored 2 goals in his first game, but since then he has just 4 goals and 9 points in 25 games. That's a 29-point pace. He's still comfortably getting top-6 minutes despite his lack of production.

Pretty bizarre usage considering they didn't sign him until after the season started even though he was practically begging them for a contract all offseason.

Connor Brown is better.

Scary...last night's Bruins game was their first regulation home loss of the season. Hopefully their "let's play like Tampa did last year" includes round 1 of the playoffs.
