The Leafs' exhibition game vs. Montreal on July 28 at 8pm has a serious chance of being the most watched exhibition game ever.

I'm not thrilled about the apparent 4pm start on Tuesday August 4.

My daughter will be pumped that the Leafs first game back will be against the hated habs on her birthday.

Kypreos getting back into... something. These guys had about 500 twitter followers soon after this announcement (now over 700) so they're a pretty new/small company.

Meh. I think the headline is a bit misleading. I still think he's a major douche, but he's got a right to sue for wrongful termination if he thinks he has cause.

Good take Frog.

How is it misleading?

The lawsuit, filed in New York Supreme Court, also accuses NBC of violating the state law against discrimination based on gender and sexual orientation.

Seems like a statement of fact.

I haven't read the statement of claim, so you can only go by the author's comment. So I'm not sure how you can call it a statement of fact that he is claiming anti-straight discrimination. Hey, it might be, but again, I haven't read the statement of claim.

I think there's a difference between claiming you were fired because you were straight vs claiming your sexual orientation had an influence on the decision or that his treatment for his conduct was inconsistent with that of other individuals' conduct.

The reason I said it was a bit misleading (as opposed to me saying it was completely unfactual and false) was that it suggests the suit is based only on this claim (which we haven't read). For all we know, it might be a minor point in his suit. I'm not a legal expert, but have enough experience to know you must read the actual claim being made.

I may be misunderstanding you here but it feels like if we reacted to every news story with "We don't know if it's true, we're just going by what the reporter is saying" we'd be chasing our tails a lot. Variety is a pretty legit outfit. I doubt they'd have something like that in an article if it weren't based on having read the claim and reporting it to us.

I suppose I'm not really of the belief that a headline is misleading if the article itself clearly states the other things involved in the suit. It's a headline, after all, you're not going to be able to fit the entirety of the story there. Going with the most eye-catching/newsworthy aspect of a story in the headline and then elaborating further in the body text seems like pretty standard journalistic practice to me but I'm likewise no expert.

I'll admit, "Roenick Sues NBC for Breach of Contract in His Dismissal Including, Amongst Other Claims, Allegations That He Was Treated Differently Due to Being a Heterosexual", isn't quite as grabby.

Panarin, Draisaitl and Mackinnon are the Hart finalists.

I've done my McDavid/Draisaitl stuff before so I guess I'll just say that I'm at least a little surprised none of the top 3 goal scorers in the league got a look. And that outside of arbitrarily deciding that two guys from the same team can't be nominated for a Hart what makes either Panarin or Mackinnon more valuable than McDavid but there we go.

He had a lot of chances tbh.

I feel like he's made a number of pretty good moves to make his team better. His biggest mistake was trying to leave the "rebuilding" phase without a franchise player to build around. I guess they thought that was Strome, but it obviously didn't work out. Imagine where they (and us) would be though if they took Marner instead.

I may be reading this wrongly but it sounds like Chayka wanted to leave to go be an AGM somewhere else? And Arizona initially granted permission only to take it away?

Yeesh.

Arizona reporter just clarified that the job Chayka was eyeing wasn't with another hockey team.

Well coulda been hockey-related, just not with another team. Maybe he wanted to go back to Stathletes? Anyway, pretty bizarre for the Coyotes to drag this out and not just let him go.
