I wonder if Forsberg could be someone the Leafs target at some point. 26 years old, turning 27 in November. He had a .908 save percentage in 35 games with Chicago last season, which seems fine for a back-up.

Carolina's about to go through arbitration with him and they're squabbling over a one way or two way deal it looks like. The Canes have Mrazek, Reimer, and a young goalie in Alex Nedeljkovic that they're high on so it's possible he ends up as their #4 guy. He'd also need to clear waivers if/when he gets assigned to the AHL.

Without delving too far into the Leafs off-season, so far.. I believe that if Shattenkirk is willing to explore signing with a contender and signing for, anywhere near 1.4 million or less, Dubas needs to do whatever he can to sign the guy.
I could live with waiving guys like Harpur and Holl, if it meant having a player like that, even for a year. I don't think Harpur and Holl are in our future anyway. I get that it's nice to have depth, but;

Reilly-Shattenkirk
Muzzin-Barrie
Dermitt-Ceci

Looks like a promising group to me.

As much as I'd like to have Shattenkirk on a cheap deal this year instead of Holl or Smaltz, I highly doubt Shattenkirk would come here.  He's going to want to sign with a team that has an opening on the PP.  With Barrie and Rielly, the Leafs don't have that.

He might see Ceci as his only legit top 4 competition in TO and think he has a chance there.  That, + contender team might entice him.

As more and more teams move to the 4/1 set up a guaranteed PP spot is going to be pretty hard to come by, especially if Shattenkirk wants to sign with a team with a real shot at things.

Why wouldn't he come here? I mean, maybe he wants to stay in the NY area, but that leaves Jersey, or Long Island, who could very well call, but I'd think where he slots on the power play, would not hold as much weight, as playing for a team that is ripe to challenge for a cup.
I'd also think that playing with Morgan Reilly would also give pause for consideration from Shattenkirk as well.

I'm just saying that Dubas should make the call and see where he's at, especially if we can get him on a good contract. Why not?

This is like all the ladies in King's Landing getting hairstyles to match Cersei.

They're wearing the same type glasses. Confirmed on the same page.

Well Shattenkirk has gone to Tampa for $1.75m

Toronto reportedly had strong interest, but hard to blame Shattenkirk for picking Tampa. Both strong contenders but Tampa probably offered a higher AAV and they likely have a PP spot for him too so he can rack up some points before becoming an UFA again next summer.

Tampa Bay was by far the best ?regular season? team last year. Beyond that , they didn?t win the cup. They didn't win a series . They didn?t even win a single game when it really counted.

I don't think there's much point to defining "best team" beyond the quality of the players on that team but we have lots of evidence that the guys on Tampa Bay can perform well and win games and series' in the playoffs, certainly much more than we have for the Leafs, so I think we can fairly dismiss what happened to them vs. Columbus as the sort of random thing that can happen in a parity heavy league to anyone.
