Something around Johnsson for Weeger seems to make a bit of sense for both teams.

Would be a great deal for the Leafs, assuming Weegar signs for a similar amount as his previous contract.
He is not signing for 1.6 mill.

Yeah, the DeMelo contract is probably a decent comparable.

Leafs have been tracking him for awhile.

4x3.25AAV works for me

I would think so. Would he with Muzz be a true shutdown pair? I think it's pretty good. Sign Gudas for a cheap 3rd pairing and call it a day lol.

I was thinking somewhere around $2M, maybe $2.5M - he has less of a track record than someone like DeMelo, but is a similar contributor at a similar age.

I'd still keep Muzzin-Holl together. Having Weegar with Rielly would let Mo get back to his 18/19 rover days.

I love to first get him on the Leafs and at the price you say, but i don't see it. 20+ min a night D man that kills penalties. I think it's 3+.

For what it's worth (Nik don't read this) EvolvingWild has him at $3.5-3.8 for 3-4 years.

I mean he's definitely getting more than Carson whats-his-name.

Well they could switch them up if needed so IF we could get Weegar would be happy with Gudas, maybe Stecher as a 3rd pairing guy?

Stupid no-name Minnesota defenceman ruining the market.

Last year was the first time he averaged 20+ minutes, and even then, only barely. He's a 2nd pairing defensive-minded guy. I get that some UFAs/pending UFAs have warped the market a little bit, but as a pending RFA, Weegar has a little less leverage (and less of a track record than most of his comparables). I think that should keep the price down.

Well we can hope if infact the Leafs do get him.

1 year away from UFA with arbitration rights though (and again, Soupy or whatever would definitely get brought up as a comparable). If he doesn't get at least $3mil I'd be surprised (and happy if it happens here).

Yeah, he has leverage because he can easily just take a 1 year deal in aribitration and walk to UFA if he can't get a multi year deal at a number he is ok with. If the leafs give up any significant assets in a trade, they will want more than 1 guranteed year.

Absolutely. They could have a trade in place and the Leafs could be talking to him now. Fingers crossed.
