Probably wasn't comfortable trying it last year or he disliked Babs and there was a rift between them. Either way, no biggie.

I still refuse to believe that story is 100% true only because if Babcock did ask Matthews to PK and he said "nah" then Matthews would have been killing penalties every single game.

I like mine better, but I understand the premise.

Thornton-Matthews-Marner are already a line, Tavares-Nylander are already a line. This split disrupts the top-6 5v5 flow the least. For example, if the Tavares line draws a penalty, you get a fully fresh PP unit available. If the PK team has the good fortune of staving off that first salvo, they're getting Tavares/Nylander in the face right after.

At any point he feels it necessary, Keefe can just pop in Rielly and the Big 4 for 1:30.
