If Suzuki is ?generational? then what is Nylander? Inter dimensional?
It?s quite amazing how the term ?generational? (in its most frequent usage, anyway) has somehow gone from meaning very literally ?once in a generation? to just ?pretty good?.

Off-topic: I can't stand "decimate", which once literally meant "to reduce by 1/10th" now means essentially the exact opposite. When people say "the team was decimated", my brain thinks: "so it was reduced by 1 out of 10 people in an effort to motivate through fear?"

I'll decimate my usage of the word decimate based on what you have told me about the word decimate.  Before I would use the word decimate to describe a situation in which things had been reduced radically, which as you say is not the proper connotation of the word decimate.  Moving forward, if someone asks why I am not using the word decimate, I will explain what the word decimate means, based on your post about the definition of the word decimate.  That way I will propagate the proper usage of the word decimate, and hopefully it will get used properly so we don't have the whole literally/figuratively thing happen again, where literally can now mean either literally or figuratively.  In order to decimate my usage of the word, I won't include this last sentence.

Can you decimate this paragraph of decimates?

Yes, in retrospect the Leafs should have taken a power forward over actual future Vezina winner Hellebuyck.

3 goalies in the top 10? Have there ever been 3 goalies drafted in the first round even?
Yes plenty of times. 4 were drafted in 2001. Pascal Leclaire(8), Dan Blackburn(10),Jason Bacashihua(25) and Adam Munro(29). 3 in 2002. 4 in 2004. 4 in 2006...

Had no idea, or memory of this.

Also I would say there's no doubt in my mind that Rielly is a more useful piece overall than Tom Wilson.

They finally got the story about whether they should get the jet ski or the furnace

The Leafs were without a GM at the time, having fired Dave Nonis in April. Hunter and Kyle Dubas shared GM duties in the interim. Hunter oversaw the amateur scouting operation, a role he kept when Lou Lamoriello was hired as GM later that summer.

?Lou lets people do their jobs. And (team president Brendan Shanahan) lets people do their jobs,? he said. ?So, if it?s a bad pick out there it?s my fault.?

Hunter stresses that last point. Any chatter about missed picks over the years wasn?t about Lamoriello.

?It?s not Lou?s fault. It?s my fault,? Hunter said. ?So, if (people on the outside) want to talk about some other picks, they can talk about them because Lou?s very good at letting people (do their jobs).?

?[Marner]'s a guy that never gets tired,? Hunter said. ?And I think that?s an attribute that a lot of people don?t talk about. The season doesn?t wear him down. And that?s why he?s so consistent. We all watch him ? and he can take a minute and a half shift, or get out there for way too long, and he doesn?t get tired.
This is very true in short samples, but maybe to the detriment of the top line at times, especially towards the end of the season and in playoffs (PP gets static). He might have the legs to move, but tiredness affects decision making too.

Well, things are getting a little silly

Last chance Dubas. CHL Centre or by gum I riot*.

*Where "rioting" is understood to be sighing wearily and changing the channel to a cooking competition.

Edit: Side note but is "changing the channel" now an anachronism? Would kids understand what it means? I'm feeling philosophical this morning.

Channel? I thought the only way to follow the draft was to refresh twitter every 10 seconds that night.

Thanks Frank, for stepping in here.  We must defend the sacred moments on this board with unshakeable fidelity.

Truth matters.

Provided you can still get a reasonable approximation of the sort of player I think the Leafs should take in the early 2nd round then I'm coming around to the ideat that they should probably trade down. They need bodies at this point and if the deal is there to add a late 2nd/early 3rd I just don't know if there's enough value to stick at #25.
