2023-24 NHL Thread

This Huberdeau thing is just such a head scratcher...2 points in his last 5 games, and 17 points in 38 games...only 5 of those are goals.

He's a rush-playmaker, so his production is more significantly tied to his linemates and the chemistry they have. A dreadful start to be sure, and maybe putting too much pressure on himself as the team was in a bit of a tailspin (going to 6M to 10.5M is sure to mess with your self-expectations). Since his signing, they have changed GMs and head coach, on top of going from no scrutiny Florida to kookoo bananas Calgary.

Starting to look better alongside Lindholm-Sharangovich lately...

33% drop in scoring per game, 42% drop in goals per game

During his last 4 seasons in Florida they were 6th or better in GFA (3.52)
During his 2 seasons in Calgary, they were 19th in GFA (3.12)

That is only an 11% drop in GFA. It is a factor but doesn't explain it all.

Florida ES TOI/game 14:38  PP TOI/game 3:42 (last 4 years in FL)
Calgary ES TOI/game 14:00  PP TOI/game 2:51 (1.5 years in Calgary)

PP ice time drop would also explain some of it but not all of it.

Strange to see Tampa outside of a playoff spot, but also, it's about time

Andrei Vasilevskiy: currently the most overrated player in the NHL.

Also: yikes at some of the */- stats on those top Tampa forwards. Looking at you Stamkos.
I can see them asking him to waive his NMC if they're out of it. I don't see them re-signing him unless its a dirt cheap contract.

OK folks, get out your bingo cards...

Who had Winnipeg and Vancouver 1-2 in the league at the 40 game mark?

Connor Hellebyuck about to make hella bucks. They have the two best goalies on a Canadian team (other than Martin Jones :) )

In an era of inconsistent goaltending season by season and while playing on a team that hasn't always been good, he consistently has good numbers.  He's getting paid 8.5M until he's 38 but honestly that's not a terrible contract given how reliable he has been over his career.  And if he flames out, honestly, the guy deserves it for how well he has played over that time.

The end of his next contract might not look great but I'm still surprised he settled for just $8.5mil per. He absolutely could have gotten more on the open market and with a team that isn't, you know, Winnipeg.

Perhaps we have a chance at a Canadian team win the Cup this year. We have to Be-leaf

I had Boston as a bubble team at the start of last season .... too many old & injured ... so I thought.

It wasn't very long ago that LA & Vegas were near the top of the league ... both have 3 wins in their last 10 games.

The league is like its goaltending .. various parties up & down - driving their GMs nuts.
