Not choosing Ritchie is disappointing.  I sense he will develop into a very solid NHL'er and ANA made out like bandits to get him.

I'm pretty confident Nylander will develop into the better player. Anaheim got a nice player, but the Leafs got the better one.

I do hope you are right and time will tell!
What do you think Nylander's end weight will be when full grown?  I see him listed at 170 lbs right now.

Well, if he's built anything like his father, he'll come in somewhere in the 190-200 range. And, for what it's worth, eliteprospects.com has him listed at 180. The listings on European juniors tend to vary wildly and not be particularly accurate, because they're often not up to date.

He was listed as 5' 11'', 169lbs at the combine. Those are usually the best source for that information.

Pittsburgh gets the #1 Euro skater by CSS at pick 22.  Will be interesting to see how young Kapanen performs some day compared to Sami.

The winger is in a unique position: He?s a free agent in Europe. If he doesn?t make the Leafs out of training camp, they can elect to send him to the AHL, something they couldn?t do with a Canadian player, or back to Sweden if a team will take him, or to an OHL team.

?That is up to the team,? said Nylander. ?My goal is to play in the NHL. If not, go back to Sweden or the AHL.?

Ivan Barbashev falls out of the first round. He was a guy that I really liked back when it looked like we were drafting around the 12 spot. Would be awesome if the Leafs could nab an early 2nd to get him.

The Islanders take the self-proclaimed "best player in the draft" at #28.  I'm sure by this time tomorrow Ho-Sang will have shattered all Gretzky's records.  ::)

TSN said they were heavy in talks with Buffalo, didn't they? They have an early 2nd rounder for us.

Anybody in the top-5 could use a guy like Franson really if he's a guy that we're dangling.

Vancouver picks up Virtanen and McCann. Nice job by them.

It's going to be hard to make fun of them if their GM is competent.

Yeah, though, that still remains to be seen. No obvious screw ups so far, though. Not like Carolina taking Fleury 7th.

As far as I'm concerned Nylander is the best possible result for us.  We didn't make a stupid trade to get one of the higher players whose upside isn't that much better (if at all) than Nylander's.  Most skill of anyone left at that point.

He definitely has the potential to be a 1C in terms of offense ? you can't teach skill, as the cliche goes (but it's true).

I'd put him in the AHL next year (since they can) and maybe even for part of the following, and tell him to keep working on D.
