Ducks shopping Ryan

cw Ducks lost again tonight...last 2 games they had 3-0 and 2-0 leads only to cough them up. Changes will come but not sure which players.

Which might suggest Boudreau is getting them pumped up for a good start.

They were losses to the #6 Flyers & #3 Wild so they were pretty severe tests.

The Ducks started 5-0. The Caps started 7-0. No signs from those starts that the players had tuned out their coach.

The sooner the Ducks fade away, the better for the teams like the Leafs who have cap space to make a deal.

But do we have cap space?  I thought with bonus structures we were essentially at the cap ceiling.

No we have very roughly $4 mil cap space if everybody is healthy. Given a trade is involved, the extra $1.5 or whatever needed to have Ryan under the cap could probably go in the trade. Or be absorbed by LTIR. etc - lots of options for roughly $1.5 mil cap difference.

If Bobby Ryan becomes a Leaf, who would you pair him with?  (Just asking out of curiousity).

I'd put him on the 1st PP unit (as a center) with Lupul and Kessel but would have him on the other "top six" line as a LW to balance out the scoring. That's how I'd do it to start at least...

So the Ducks played their 'new coach' card and haven't done so well.  2-7-1 I think is what I heard.

So do they revisit any Ryan talks after the freeze?

He isn't doing himself any favours either.  In 33 games he has 10 goals, 7 assists and is -8.  On pace for 24 goals and 41 points which is extremely dissapointing for him.

I know this season is probably just a blip in the radar but if there was ever a time where he might be moved, I'd say now is it.

I'm fully expecting the post-Burke surprise blockbuster trade where we land Ryan when nobody expects it. (except me)

I would easily send Kulemin and Schenn for Ryan.

Right now a package starting with Schenn as a main piece I would be very willing to see put together for Ryan.

I like Schenn but I'm starting to question the ceiling he has. Its not to say I give up on the guy at all.. just not sure he's as good as we think he's going to be.  Seen a lot of flaws lately that concern me.  Anyway, he's simply not untouchable anymore in my books.  Plus, Cody Franson being around makes it easier to move Schenn.

I wouldn't do it.  Schenn's the only hard hitter we have right now.  Phaneuf hasn't been his nasty self enough this season.  Sure, Aulie is a big body presence, but I think he still needs to fill out some more.  I just wouldn't want to give Schenn up.  Who knows?  Is Ryan hurt?  Is he going to turn out like Cheechoo after his great year(s)?

Aren't the Leafs trading Schenn for Staal? It's all so confusing...

Seriously though, if Anaheim is trading Ryan I doubt it's for equal or more salary coming back barring wider scope in the deal.

I agree, CF -- Schenn is no longer untouchable.  And that's a change for me.

There was one sequence last night that brought it into focus.  He laid a nice hit behind the net and thereby got control of the puck.  He then just gave it up to another King about 10 feet away along the boards -- it looked like he just passed it to him.  He then proceeded to paste that guy with a nice hit.  I think the commentators were praising him for the hits, but didn't even notice the giveaway.

With his lack of speed and offense, he absolutely has to be, at a minimum, the second coming of Foote.  But he makes too many mistakes to bear that comparison.

Having said all this, he's still young and I wouldn't be looking to trade him.  And I am not enamored of Ryan, so I wouldn't deal him there.  But if a Staal became available....

You know what...  And this may be something for another thread but I agree with you.

I've noticed things I really don't like either that concern my quite a bit.  For one, he's always 'next to a guy' in the crease.  He never takes someone out.  He never ties up there stick.  My friend at work told me to watch out for this and it's incredible.  The guy literally stands next to forwards instead of trying something to take them out.  They get to all the loose pucks and jam away in the crease.

He also has spaghetti arms.  Terrible, weak first pass.  Often right on the offensive guys stick.  He also has no shot.  Nothing.  He sits there and waits, and waits, and waits, and is so slow to get off a slapper.  Not to mention it's virtually non-existent, which is surprising for a guy his size and strength.

He also runs around his own end like a chicken with no head.

Anyways, I've soured on Schenn quite a bit.  He's a decent d-man.  He can hit and block shots and that's about it.  I actually see his skill set as being pretty darn similar to Komisarek.  You know, slow skater, big, hit, block shots, can't pass, can't shoot, runs around own end.  Schenn's career looks right on track.

He's Mike Komisarel 2.0.
