Ducks shopping Ryan

And, with the coaching change in Anaheim, this entire discussion is probably all for naught.

Probably puts it to rest.  At least for the time being.

Saw yesterday:  http://www.rangerstribune.com/the-rangers-tribune/2011/11/rangers-being-tied-to-bobby-ryan-rumors.html

Looks like Ducks asked for Stepan, McDonagh, and a 1st from the Rangers.

I think the Leafs could compete with that offer.

Maybe but that's a really high cost. Stepan's 21 and scored 20 goals already in the league and McDonagh has been pretty terrific to open the season and is 22. I don't know what the equivalents are. Probably Gardiner, Kulemin and a 1st maybe? Even then it'd be a toss-up for me as to which deal I take.

Maybe. But that's not the offer. That's probably what Anaheim would like for Ryan, but the article even says the players listed are pretty much untouchable.

...or with most of three years left on Carlyle's contract it puts the Ducks in a further financial hole and only stems the inevitable...

...unless Boudreau pulls a similar stunt as he did when first joining Washington or Carlyle suddenly finds work again.

I think it all boils down to choice of rib sauce at this point.

It will be interesting to see what affect Boudreau has on Anaheim.  I really don't know what to expect there.

Without really knowing the specifics of Carlyle's contract, if I had to guess, Id' say the entirety of the payout remaining on it is likely less than Bobby Ryan will earn this season. They can easily make up those expenditures elsewhere over the next 2 and a half seasons.

Maybe, maybe not. If what cw projected the other day holds that's adding some dough to an already troubled situation with a diminishing fan base and cash flow. 17 mil this year before Carlyle, IIRC?

Lee, Foligno, & a 1st for Ryan.
ENTICING

Bryan Murray isn't the GM in Anaheim anymore.

:)

Where were you two when the deals involving Kadri & taking Jason Blake back were proposed?

Right here. I'm the one or one of the first that raised taking Jason Blake back to eat the dollars of his contract ... but only as a component of a deal. I don't think I raised Kadri nor any specific deal.

If Boudreau doesn't turn the Ducks around quickly and strongly enough for a playoff run, I think it's very safe to say some big contract bucks will be promptly moving out the door to cut their financial losses.

I also think it's safe to say that this:
"Lee, Foligno, & a 1st for Ryan."
won't come that close to getting it done.

Lee is turning into a 6th dman .. maybe - lowest on team in ice time among 7 dmen on a mediocre team. He's not worth much having basically burnt his 1st rounder pedigree.

Foligno is closer to a 3rd liner or a tweener on a good team playing a second line role on a medicore team. I'm not saying that to be disrespectful. I don't mind Foligno at all.

11th overall pick right now.

I don't think that's enough to get Anaheim very excited.

Although you might not want to do it, Rundblad or Cowen or something with more sizzle is probably what it's going to take to win the bidding.

I've read the top coaches get between $1.5 to $2 mil/yr. Wilson was reported to have got a 4yr deal for $5.6 mil in '08 (=$1.4/yr) plus bonuses (I don't know if that's accurate). Sutter may have got up to $3 mil to come coach the Devils.

I'd guess Carlyle's total deal is probably and very roughly $1.5 mil/yr for 3 years = $4.5 mil - almost Bobby Ryan territory for a season but only a $1.5 mil hit this year.

The one guy I'd really like from Anaheim is Getzlaf.

The Leafs might be able to snag him for nothing in the summer of 2013. It would make the Brad Richard sweepstakes look ho-hum though.

Totally agree with you here.
But would trading for Ryan now help the Getzlaf sweepstakes - and i know to have them both we'd have to move a few contracts. Luckily Burke would know if those two were good buddies or not.

I don't know if getting one would influence the other or not.

These two seem pretty tight though:

Perry would be my second choice over Ryan.

I just would like us to have a true #1 center which is why I lean to preferring Getzlaf. Any of the three could obviously help the Leafs top six.

I guess you can end any speculation... for now at least

RealKyper Nick Kypreos
#Ducks GM Bob Murray has assured Bobby Ryan he is off #NHL trading market today. Also told Ryan's desire to be moved is no longer an issue.

Yeah, sure, today... ;)

I imagine Gabby took one look at the roster and told Bobby he wouldn't be playing on the third line anymore, hooray!
