Ducks shopping Ryan

Schenn + Kulemin for Ryan and say, Brookbank (depth d-man) I think the sum of those contracts are almost identical.  Just an idea... I'm sure there is more than a few ways to skin this cat.

If the price is too high, Ryan isn't coming here.

Yep.

I do suspect Burke will extensively beat the bushes trying to find a way to get him or someone off that roster though. As we've seen over the past two summers, there are not of these guys who come available.

What it will take that's fair value and a good move, I'd have to give that some thought. The more competitive a team's roster is, the tougher it is to get a deal done - in significant part due to the cap space available down the road.

The good news is that Burke is in a much better position today with some credible pieces that could help Anaheim. And he has a good relationship with Anaheim management.

I could definitely see this happening.

This may be worth a reread, not your garden variety hockey piece.

"Burke wasn't just convinced. He was moved: an innocent kid caught in the middle of a tough situation, but one who never thought of himself as a victim. 'The best interview I ever had with a young player,' Burke says."

Wow what a story.  I didn't know anything about his past, that's some incredible stuff there.  Poor kid, he learned to grow up way faster than he should have.  It's a testament to his dedication that he excelled at the highest level despite all the family issues.

This is just wild speculation, but did Toronto recall Aulie for the game in Anaheim to showcase him as part of a package?

No, I'm pretty sure it's because Gunnar was hurt and they wanted Aulie to partner with Phaneuf.

Oh I think if this is even remotely true, Burke is going to be aaaaaaaaaaallllllll over it and would pay a pretty healthy price to boot.  Its been rumored that Burke has been trying to get him a few times already, plus Fletcher was also rumored to be trying 4 years ago.

I think you have to pay a pretty steep price to get elite talent like him and the only time you will get them is when they are struggling and the team makes a panicky sort of move.

Maybe they want Lupul back? :P

Kadri + Connoly + 1st + goalie prospect.  Would not shock me.

:D :D  You and I think alike.  I've been wondering why the Leafs flew Aulie all the way across the continent when they had Holzer with the team and ready to play in case of an injury.  Probably due to the fact that Aulie plays on the left side whereas Holzer plays on the right, and with Gunnarson out they needed a left side guy.  So end the speculation.  ;)

I think Kadri + a goalie prospect is a given, but it's what's more they would want that scares me.

For sure. There are certainly enough pieces here to make a deal work I think.

I don't see Connolly being an attractive piece as part of a trade for Ryan at all.

Yeah, an injury prone 30 year old player is not going to be part of a package for a young player like Ryan.

Well it was 3 years ago today that Brian Burke was announced as the new GM of the Leafs, what better way to celebrate his 3 year anniversary then to hold a press conference to announce he's traded for Ryan?  ;)

Connolly is Cap hit offset. He's also a good centre when healthy. Something they need a lot of help with.

I think it's pretty clear the Ducks are after Caputi and Irwin and are using this "leak" to drive up the price so the Leafs will finally cave.

I think they're trying to get the Leafs to add in Greenop and Scott.
