Poor read by Gunnarsson on that one.

Can't just blame Gunnar on that one. Someone had to take the point. Grabovski watched the whole counter attack develope and then he decided oh S88T maybe I better get back. Too late. I blame him more than anybody.

If Gunnarsson had decided to take a defensive position instead of pinching in, that play probably doesn't happen at all.

I'm sick of this playing Komisarek BS, Aulie is the better option IMO and even if you disagree, one must concede Aulie is far superior in terms of price/performance.

An odd thing to say considering this has been a pretty decent game for Komi.

Over half way through the game and we've managed eight shots on a recently concussed goalie. EIGHT!

The Islanders have been taking liberties with Kessel every shift in the second since I started watching.  I haven't seen an ounce of "retribution" from anyone else in the lineup.  Where the hell is the fight in this team?

It was put on waivers.

This game speaks to what is really wrong with this team, Islanders taking liberties with our star player at every turn, with nobody answering the bell for him, while their star player runs around bumping our goalie and crosschecking people over and over and not one thing is done.

Truculence my arse.

The Leafs were playing with 1 defenceman back, something bad was bound to happen. The 2-on-1 would have probably still happened but Gunnar would have been in a better position to defend against it. Gunnar is certainly at fault there, but it needs to be spread around a little.

So, let me get this straight. Nobody steps in for Kessel, presumably to take the power play, and then they get scored on shorthanded...

Well, yeah, he's not the only one to take the blame, just the primary recipient. Also, if he's in a defensive position, my guess is the Islander player chips it out and down the ice instead of trying for a rush.

Why was Grabovski the guy back there and not Phaneuf?  What was he doing?  It was your missed shot that caromed out of the zone.

It was gunnarsons shot. Dion was stationed in front of the net.

Ahh, my bad.

Orr doesn't stop this play.  A fake fight doesn't stop this.  It's the lack of hitting from anyone.  Where is Captain Phaneuf with a big hit?  Where is Kulemin with another one of those surprise hits?  Where is Crabb or Mike Brown (seriously, is he doing anything at this point?).  How about Komisarek?  These guys are playing like pacifists and are heading toward yet another loss because they get outplayed physically.  The book is completely out on the Leafs.  Slow down the neutral zone and hit them and the offense dries up.  It is happening way too much.

I actually don't think this is a Wilson problem at this point because if the 2nd-4th lines had any character whatsoever they wouldn't let guys take cheap shots at their top scorers (Lupul/Kessel).

Earlier in the period, Tavares was slightly nudged by Lupul and conveniently fell into Gustavsson on a complete benign play where he was aggressively coming in to blatantly snow Gustavsson well after the whistle.  Nobody sent a message to him to stay the hell away from their goaltender.  There is no accountability to help guys out.

We need to get bigger and tougher.

I'm convinced we need to get bigger and tougher.

Trade for Clowe, sign Shawn Thornton in the summer.  That would be a great start.

Brown-Steckal-Thornton would be a great 4th line and Clowe would be perfect for our top 6.

If we drop this one, we'll have gone 6-5 over the last 11 -- 11 games, 9 at home, which was the sweet spot of the schedule.  Not good enough.  Right now we are playing like a team that is going to settle into 9/10/11 position at season's end.

Sounds about right.
