So I'm listening to prime time sports and they're talking about kadri and his position in league scoring, and the question comes up 'when was the last time the leafs had a player in the top ten scorers' and the lot of them are all hemming and hawing 'wow I don't know? Maybe gilmour'

Really?

The fellas at PTS can be engaging but they've never been the most statistically astute bunch.

Well, it has been a whole year.  That's, like, 365 days.  Even more in a leap year.

Sundin 7th in league scoring in '97
Sundin 10th in goals in '98
Sundin 2nd in goals in '02, 4th in league scoring
Sundin 8th in goals in '03
Kessel 6th in goals, 6th in league scoring in '12

They're not the sharpest crew when it comes to talking hockey.

lmao  that is so funny

Apparently, Bozak has only 6 primary assists all year:

http://theleafsnation.com/2013/4/12/yakovmironovs-leaflets-april-12th

Primary assists are a substantially better reflection of offensive talent than 2nd assists.

Is he the worst offensive forward in the league playing over 18 minutes a game? Over 16 minutes a game?  Is he worse offensively than Mcclement, a well-established 4th liner?  How many assists would Mcclement have if he played with Kessel and got first line pp time?

There's been a bunch of criticism of grabbo's output, but given the context, isn't bozak's quite a bit worse?  1.5 million seems like a reasonable deal for bozak (that's what he has this year). A multi-year 4+ million one will be a big mistake.

My apologies if this is the wrong place to post this pretty irrelevant article.

I do somewhat agree that, yes, there are plenty obnoxious Habs fans out there. However the last thing there needs to be is an article baiting the Canadiens at any angle by a cocky pro-Leafs writer to add any fuel to them beating Toronto in the first round (if that's even the match up when all is said and done). That would be just as bad as if the Sens beat the Leafs in any round, *shudder*. And I *know* just how obnoxious those fans are (I suspect some may be fair weather Habs fans lol).

Some interesting thoughts from Mirtle on the year Nazem Kadri is having.

Leafs can catch the Habs. Only 4 points back. I didn't expect that 2 weeks ago

They're ahead of the Habs 24-23 in ROWs. They've already clinched the head-to-head points match up 6-0 (with a game to play) - the 2nd tie breaker so the Habs must win 2 more of their six remaining games than the Leafs do in regulation or OT to win the Leafs tiebreaker. And the Leafs have a game against the Habs at the end of the regular season.

If the Leafs can pick up 2 points on the Habs before that game, they have a good chance at winning the tiebreaker between the two and passing the Habs to get home ice in the first round - if they also win that final game. A couple of fairly large IFs but given the way the Habs and Leafs have been playing, the Leafs actually have a respectable shot now at pulling it off.

And they're only 3 points behind the Bruins (who have a game in hand) while ahead of the Bruins 24-22 in ROWs (the first tiebreaker). The Bruins won the 2nd head-to-head points tiebreaker 6-3 should it come to that. But again, the Leafs have some sort of a shot at passing the Bruins should the Bruins wobble and the Leafs continue their hot play.

I had to keep pinching myself as I typed that given where my thoughts were at the start of the season.

Awww.... put that prediction behind you, you just fell into the downer media hype, lots of people did. I saw what we had last year, and who we added, as well as the reason for the fall (reamer injury), and knew we were in for a bounce back. but even I did not expect us to be running at home ice with the likes of Boston.

I can't believe we'll see another playoff round...all 9 years older. When I was 18 I had no idea that I would have to wait until I was 27.

I think it's not that far of a stretch that the Leafs win against the Habs, and that they could go 4-1/3-2 vs the Habs 3-2/2-3. Their schedule is pretty soft, especially if they get a win tonight.

Mike Ulmer - 10 Reasons this Leafs team is better than last years.

Not sure I agree with it all, but a decent read.

http://blog.mapleleafs.com/no-looking-back-to-last-year/

8.  Jay McClement. McClement has proven himself the team?s most versatile forward. He is a good face-off man and a conscientious defensive player who can move up to the second line in a pinch. He was a great signing by Burke.

9.    Nikolai Kulemin. Kulemin has stayed healthy and re-invigorated his offence. Given the benefit of a full, pro-rated season, he would have turned in a 14-goal, 44-point year with strong defence. His seven goals match last season?s total. It looks like Kulemin will never be a 30-goal scorer again but his combination of passable offence with excellent defence still makes him a useful player.

Cool story about when Poni was playing in Toronto last time the Leafs were in the playoffs.

?Every home game we?d win, it was a huge party outside,? he said with a smile Monday. ?Couldn?t actually get home, because Yonge Street was just piled up; nobody moving, everybody was just with flags outside, running around screaming, knocking on the windows.?
