Nice positive article on the Leafs goaltending situation...

Shoalts of the Globe and Mail are panicking. And taking names. Repeats a lot of what is said here though, albeit pretty snarky.

From the article:
...It?s because they don?t give themselves a chance to take a shot. When they do get the puck away from the opposing fore-checkers, the Leafs can?t get the attack moving out of their own end.

Pat Quinn, who knew a thing or two about offensive hockey, loved to say....It is about puck movement. Get those crisp passes moving from your own zone. That?s what makes a team hard to defend against.

Absolutely.

Frattin says he was expecting to play last night but when Isles decided to dress Carkner, Boulton that changed the plan

Face meet palm.

if the Islanders were dressing big, slow goons Carlyle should have responded by putting more skaters like Frattin in the line-up. Too much emphasis on the scrappers.

If anybody wants to join me, I'm firmly on the PAC bandwagon.

I just don't get it.  These fighters don't intimidate anyone.  So if you don't put any fighters in the lineup, who are they going to fight?  Just put better players in the lineup that you can match up and beat them at actual hockey.

The fights they have aggravate me to no end.  They never fight in situations where the Leafs need a pick-up.  It's always those garbage staged fights or accepting the fights from other enforcers who are trying to lift their own team.    The fights contribute nothing, and if anything last night they were a downright negative.

Just for the record:

Boulton hadn't played in 9 games before last night and hadn't engaged in a fight in over a month.

Carkner was a healthy scratch the game before (and has been in and out of the lineup all season). Before last night he hadn't fought in over two months.

Obviously the only reason the Isles put those guys in was because they assumed they'd be facing the goons.

Like those above I would have love to have seen Carlyle counter with Frattin and Hamilton in instead of the two goons - who ended up influencing the game negatively (we can argue to what extent, but it's pretty clear that they did).

There are plenty of others on the Leafs who could have answered the bell if called upon (actual hockey players). But hopefully if they did it would've been for a reason that was a little bit more logical than "Hey we killed off a 5 on 3 and are up 2-0, we have all the momentum so obviously it makes total sense right now to oblige the Isles with 2 fights back to back!"

I for one love the fighting, but last night there was no reason for our guys to take on a fight while we were up 2-0. that was just bad timing.

And even worse, the bandwagon's almost empty. I think everyone ran for there closets.

I don't get this. The team will very likely make the playoffs, but haven't looked at all like a playoff team the last few games.

Being a fan and being critical of the team when they're playing poorly aren't mutually exclusive.

The best way to get better is practice (Leafs or teams in general), and constructive criticism (teams or what we non-pros do on these boards). I see most fans happy the team is going to the playoffs (I.e. jumping on the bandwagon) but slightly worried about our prospects against a team like Boston given our recent poor form.

Anyway I've always thought bandwagon fans are the kind of fans that are frowned upon. I've supported this team since 1989 and I've been able to enjoy the good times and suffer the bad times.

I'm not even sure what you mean by "running for the closet". That people won't support the team if they make it? That people aren't sure they'll make it because they need to win to get in? That people all of a sudden liked the team because they're playoff calibre but now that they may not be all of a sudden are Penguins fans?  It doesn't stand up to my experience of Leafs fans, whether in everyday life or (especially) on these boards.

Maybe you're referring to some 8-10 year olds you know? In my experience, with my kids and when I was that age, that's how that age group behaves. Adults? Not so much.

Running for the closet. aka getting very quiet. bandwagon fans are a group of fans on board for the run for the holy grail.
I and all the others on board are, have, and always will be  leaf fans. closet fans are people who hide in wait while things are bad, aka the last 9yrs. sorry if this is so hard to understand for you. I hope I brought you up to speed. its all in fun, aka joking. ;D

I always thought it was the opposite?  True fans were the ones who followed the Leafs all year/all season long.  Bandwagon fans are the ones that only become fans when the Leafs are winning.  I remember when the Leafs went to the playoffs (back in high school/university was the last times for me :P) were the ones who during the regular season were only casual observers/followers, but come playoff time had their Leaf gear out in full effect, and suddenly were experts on the team.  Closet fans are people who are fans of the Leafs, but are afraid to show it (more than likely because they live in another team's town - Montreal, Vancouver?).

Then again, it's been so many years since we've been in the playoffs, I may have gotten my definitions crossed. :P

No, you're right. Bandwagon fans are only along for the ride when things are good.

So I'd love to see this in the playoffs:

JVR        Grabovski    Kessel
Lupul        Kadri        Kulemin
Komarov  Bozak        Frattin
MacArthur  McLement  Hamilton
*Colborne
*McLaren

Phaneuf  Gunnarsson
Liles      Franson
Gardiner  Fraser
*Komisarek

Imagine a world where both Orr and McLaren aren't every day regulars *sigh

What's Hamilton done to suddenly be included in the Leafs playoff roster?
