Goaltending conundrum v3.0-Reimer or Bernier?

I like to say  hats off to Reimer, the first goalie to get us into the playoffs in 9 years . It's been almost 20 years since our last homegrown net minder had a great playoff run and wishing Reimer the same success that Felix Potvin had in 93 .

Wow! 20 yrs. it feels like yesterday, where does the time go.

That was a long time ago, I remember seeing Potvin at the College subway station while the Leafs were doing some sort of promotion.  He was talking to the ticket booth guy to be let in and I yell out "Felix Potvin is buying tokens!" and I got a laugh out of a few people around me.

I remember those playoffs started off badly as well, Leafs lost the first 2 games in Detroit handily, and then roared back to win the next 4 out of 5 games.

Anybody know what the best single-season Leafs goaltending performance is?

Statistically? Hard to tell, since Sv% only became an official stat in the early 80s, but, Jacques Plante's 70/71 season is awfully impressive. 1.88 GAA with, unofficially, a .942 Sv%. He did only play 40 of the team's 78 games that season, though.

I'll keep bugging you - how about since SV% became an official stat?

Best I can find is Belfour's .922 in 02/03 is the team's single season record for a starter.

Thanks!  So not as impressive due to less games, but Reimer's stats would put him up there if he maintained it during an 82 game season.

NOT SO MUCH

That reminded me of this:

those wins weren't a team effort.  Raycroft stole every single won of them.

Exactly! And the team still wasn't good enough to pick up a couple more for Raycroft and get them into the playoffs. They really let him down that year.

This will be the first time Leafs are going into a playoff series with a goalie who hasn't played any playoff games since Felix Potvin.

And he only turned out to be the best goalie in Leafs history, so we shouldn't be concerned.

I was just making note of it not passing any judgement on how Reimer will do.  Last time Leafs went in we had Belfour who's a hall of famer and Stanley Cup winner, yet it didn't get the Leafs any further.  I hope Reimer can continue to play well in the playoffs, history has shown how a hot goalie at the right time can take a team a long long way.

We were totally spoiled there for awhile. Felix to Cujo to Belfour.

The cat, dog and eagle!

I assumed my username would tip you off that I wasn't being all that serious with what I said.

We need an animal nickname for Reimer then?  The panda?
