Goaltending conundrum v3.0-Reimer or Bernier?

http://video.mapleleafs.nhl.com/videocenter/console

I really liked Reimer?s postgame interview in which he said twice that when a goalie gets a SO it is always mainly due to excellent work of the team in front of him. He was just stopping the shots.

What an attitude.

so reimer's numbers this year are better than his first miracle season in 2010.  Small sample size but if he keeps it up...

What means more to me than the small-sample-size of 9 games (8 starts) are his career numbers at this point:

80 appearances, 77 games with a .913 SV%.  While .913 isn't a dominant number, it most certainly is a legitimate SV% for a starting goaltender.  If he can play around the .915 SV%, that is good enough goaltending to have the Leafs be a playoff team.  If he can play more at the level that he has so far this year it makes the team more of a playoff upset calibre of team.

He's looking far better than last season and I'm willing to concede last season's poor play was due to the lingering effects of the concussion. If he can continue playing this way he might be closer to a .920 save % goalie which is in line with his first season. Here's to hoping this is the case.

I'd say this is potentially a new conundrum.  I'd call in v2.1.

So ... the basic choices are:

1.  Rynnas.
2.  A pricey vet (e.g., Bernier).  I don't think Luongo is in the picture.
3.  A low-cost vet.

Assuming Reimer's out for more than a couple of weeks, which way do you go?

2-4 weeks? Low cost vet... Longer? Bernier (or someone like that.) - Not Luongo.

I think if you can grab Bernier, if Reimer is out for significant time, he'd be an asset that would hold it's value I think. I'm not going to jump the gun right now, could just be a sore groin and he'll need some maintenance.

Man. Just when this thread should have been tucked away somewhere in a closet, Reimer get hurts again. Let's hope it's not serious......

That's pretty much my line of thinking. Less than two weeks, and you can roll with Scrivens/Rynnas. Longer than that and you need someone with more experience to help out. If we're looking at a month, we're talking about close to 1/3 of the season. At that point, you need someone who can be more that just a backup/short-term fill-in.

I can't see Nonis making a trade for Luongo now, no matter how serious the Reimer injury is, unless Gillis has drastically lowered the asking price. The concern about Bernier may also be the asking price. The previous rumour had LA asking for Frattin in return. That's too much. Not sure what other options there are for a longer term solution if it comes to that.

Quick's numbers haven't been great this season. I don't see why they would have any interest in moving Bernier right now.

I don't get that.  How can he barely be able to get to his feet without a serious injury?  Muscle spasm?  Cramp?

Had to be something along those lines if that was the case. At the time Reimer might not have known what it was and just wanted to prevent further injury perhaps?

Yeah.  Something like dyhydration plus huge muscle spasm maybe.

The Leafs said the same thing last year...
