Kessel traded to Penguins

Kapanen looks to have played 4 games in the AHL last year, so l like to think he'll be a Marlie this year.

Also had 5pts in 7 AHL playoff games

Here's to hoping the Pens bomb just the Leafs did when we traded picks for him. A 2nd overall pick would be nice! A Seguin and Hamilton please!

Pens barely squeaked in the playoffs. Hopefully they continue to trend down.

:) The Kessel run, the shortcut that keeps on giving...

Well, part of me hopes that we see Kessel hit 50 goals next year.  Part of me hopes the Penguins have a lot of injuries and slide in to last.

I'll take it.  The retaining is the worst part, but I'm willing to accept it.

I  agree with the retaining part.  My guess is that a trade with Pittsburgh wouldn't have been possible without the retention.

5pts in 7 games and he is only 18 and just got to North America?  That sounds very promising.  Trending along Kadri's lines -- a decent 2nd line talent.

Keep tearing it down.

Best case scenario for the Leafs is dead last this year and the next and the next. It's not painful if the Leafs are acquiring grade A prospects. Finishing second last with no 1st round picks for the next two years is painful (KESSEL TRADE).

When they made the Kessel trade I posted a two-year rebuild setback for a two-year old Kessel might be worth it... WASN'T.

Leafs now have a lot of cap space to play with for next season. Wouldn't be surprised if they take on a bad contract or two from teams near the ceiling.

Apply Horton's salary to the cap. Should of traded for Pronger too, what about Marc Savard and Dipiertro. It's like purchasing cap use without the player, expensive tanking strategy while acquiring picks.

Well, given who they drafted and adding guys like Kaspanen I think it's clear that they are going to build a fast, puck-possession team.  Now if they could only get a coach with experience running something like that.

It will actually be a line item on your cell phone and tv bill soon.  Tanking Charge.

Not sure how I feel about it, I guess I am little old school. Have not been a big of Montreal the last few years, small and fast, even though they have been successful. I am sure winning will cure all.

Glad to see this done. Now the team can move forward with a true rebuild (and not the retool that some have been talking about lately). The return seems good enough to me.

It will be very interesting to see what kind of numbers Kessel can put up with some real talent around him.

Yeah, two kids of former NHLers from Europe so far... Who else can we get?

So, that happened!  It's going to take me a while to sort out how I feel about this. I also cringed a little at retaining salary on such a long contract, but at the same time I think moving Kessel is a big help. Puts a very official stamp on the rebuild, and I was skeptical of how much higher his stock was going to go after another year.
