Leafs Injury Updates

There are a lot of people here who seem to think that when Reimer comes back everything will be all better. While I agree that Reimer is the best goalie the Leafs have and that the team will play more confidently knowing he is in net I also have to say that if the team keeps playing like the past couple of weeks then Reimer won't do a lot to change things.

If Reimer can come back and play at the top of his game like he did in spots last season, everything will start to get better. This team is better than their results have shown the past few weeks.

Yes they are. much better.

I would say right now the most critical guys to get back are:

1. Reimer
2. Armstrong

Reimer for very obvious reasons and Armstrong because they need his checking game and they also need his ability to get the team to loosen up.

Grabbo and Mac weren't exactly providing a whole lot of much other than "okay" defensive games.

Connolly might be the guy to get Kulemin going.  In fact he was flipped back to LW last night at some point and he looked waaaaaayy better.. to me that is the change that hasn't been noticed this year and I don't know why the experiment continued (Kulemin & Mac switching wings)

I don't know.  I know Grabovski wasn't exactly producing much (in comoparison to Armstrongs not at all) but Grabs is easily one of the teams best forwards.  Armstrong is a decent third liner sure but Grabovski makes our secondary scoring go.

Let's be honest here, for us to compete we need all hands on deck.  Reimer first and foremost.

Well yeah I fully agree with your last point.  They go nowhere without Reimer and they go somewhere with everyone on board. Hopefully the next 3/4 of the season bring some better luck with injuries.

While getting some scoring back would be good, Grabbo wasn't tearing it up when he went down and I think right now getting a calming presence back is critical - before the team completely starts to squeeze sticks and spiral into a long losing streak. Plus the physical game Army brings is also key.

On Grabbo -- 10 points in 18 games isn't quite where we'd like him to be, though he typically plays against tough competition.  But even replacing Grabbo's slumping production with Steckel's 3 points in 19 games (Steckel the next guy down the food chain?) is a pretty significant setback.

markhmasters: Clarke MacArthur out on the ice alone before the game-day skate; taking some shots into an empty net #Leafs

Komisarek out eight weeks.

Just like his first season, when it looks like he's finally starting to put things together he gets injured. Tough break. At least we can get a good look at Franson now, and he can play his proper side.

edit: Siegel later posts that he has a broken arm.

losing Komisarek isn't that big of a deal. now Gardiner and Franson can be in the lineup.

Those two aren't really the greatest in their own end.

It does hopefully create a little more offense and transition game from the defense though.  That might be nice.

Komisarek isn't the greatest in the defensive end either. they're young players. its not like what they are now is the end product. they need to play in order to develop. they're a bigger a part this team's future than Komisarek.

Holy god, Mike Ulmer has to be one of the most annoying homers on the planet when it comes to this and their injuries. He keep typing "SKY IS FALLING" over and over on twitter, probably as a jab to those who realize this is going to be a horrendously difficult month ahead. *facepalm What a Homer.

In fairness there are a lot of 'sky is falling' homers out there regardless of injuries, betcha he hears from a ton of them.

Maybe he's hammered?

Here's all of the injuries in a nice, convenient list courtesy of Mirtle in the G & M:

1. James Reimer (concussion-like symptoms) ? Was back on the ice for the first time in weeks on Friday, but even the best-case scenario likely means he?s another two weeks away.

2. Mikhail Grabovski (leg) ? Out for what Ron Wilson deemed to be ?at least? two weeks after leaving Tuesday?s game in the third period.

3. Clarke MacArthur (upper body) ? Remains day-to-day and is expected to miss both weekend games. May be able to play Tuesday in Tampa.

4. Mike Komisarek (wrist) ? Took a puck off the arm in Nashville and may have a broken bone. Will miss a minimum of three weeks.

5. Colby Armstrong (ankle sprain) ? Has missed all but five games and still isn?t expected back for another month.

6. Matt Lombardi (arm/shoulder) ? Hurt taking a faceoff in Nashville and will also miss a minimum of three weeks.

7. Mike Brown (undisclosed) ? Was injured Thursday before the game but is only day-to-day. Could play this weekend.

I think they're over-estimating Armstrong's timeline. Apparently, he's skating again, so, he could be 7-10 days away (though, probably closer to two weeks). As bad as it looks now, the Leafs could have everyone other than Komisarek (who is out 6-8 weeks, from the sounds of things) back within the next 3 weeks (though, that might be on the optimistic side of things for Lombardi and Grabovski).

It looked so odd seeing like 1/4 of the team in the press box haha.

I didn't even see Grabbo and Mac in the shot, it was Reimer, Komi, Brown, Lombardi and Armstrong.

Damian Cox seems to think 7 Leafs injuries is no big deal. Claims core of team is healthy except for Reimer. Just had an argument with him on Twitter. LOL

MacArthur and Brown could both be back for the next game, which would put Orr and Rosehill back into the press box.
