Leafs @ Panthers - Feb. 4th, 7:30pm - SN, SN 590

It would help if he wasn't facing close to 40 shots a night. The team in front of him likes to give him a lot of chances to make a mistake every night.

Yeah, that's fair. And considering how many games our goalies have saved us this season and last, they're going to essentially get a free pass from me for the rest of the season. I'm just saying Bernier hasn't been as unbeatable as he was earlier in the season. Certainly not enough to deserve starting the vast majority of the games.

Bernier's letting in a stinker a game lately it seems almost. It didn't matter a lot though when we were scoring 4 goals a game.

Right on there. If it wasn't for him most nights those bad goals for the most part wouldn't really matter.

I'll agree with that, especially considering how Reimer seems to thrive in games where he faces a ton of shots.

Florida is playing well. Mustering less than 20 shots on Tim Thomas (i know he is 60 years old) won't win you many games.

And that's the game.

If Thomas was a true patriot he'd let Kessel have one in the next 2 and half minutes to keep his spirits high and his streak going.

Yeah. That's about right. Putting out a 6th skater who hasn't shown himself to be interested in competing isn't going to change anything.

They do deserve some credit, for sure.  Goes to show there are no gimmies in this league.

What a bunch of clowns. 2 Panthers collide giving us the puck you think we could gain the zone. Instead turns into a 2 on 0.

I'm sure he thinks Kessel is some kind of left wing communist or something.

mirtle: This is seventh time Leafs have allowed 47+ shots. Rest of league combined has only done it 28 times.

Despite going 9-1-1 (probably 9-2-1 now) the #Leafs have allowed 39 goals in their last 12 gp. That is 3.25 per game with .915+ goaltending

Which is why I think they have to make a move on the blueline before the deadline.  My guess is Franson goes for a pick and they try to find another Gleason-type to replace him.

This problem isn't going to be fixed by replacing Franson with a more defensive minded player. This is a team wide issue. In fact, I'd say the bigger issues with the defensive play is the forwards rather than the blue line. Fixing this requires a significant overhaul of tactics and, if that fails, of talent as well.

I agree, but we know the tactics aren't going to change which means the forwards aren't going to play better defense, so the obvious thing to go is upgrade on Franson.

Sure, but, really, that's a drop in the ocean. Moving Franson for a player who isn't a defensive blackhole is a move the team needs to make, but, with the way they play, it's not going to make much of a difference.
