Lightning @ Leafs - Nov. 20th, 7:30pm - TSN4, Fan 590

Well played game. Lots of pressure, fast pace. Weird how this team can lose so badly and then play like this against a really good team. So bizarre.

Quick note about Kadri- I've really been impressed with his play this season. He has made huge progress in the faceoff circle- 9-3 tonight and over 50% on the season. He was back-checking really well today and probably fed about a half dozen teammates with fantastic passes. Just can't buy a point for some reason.

On the other side of the spectrum is Bozak. Two points today despite playing, imo, an awful game. Continued missed passes, fanning on shots, losing every single battle along the boards. Has a giveaway in his own end at the blueline which is picked up by JVR who races end to end for a goal and then gets an assist on an empty net Polak goal from 100 feet. Polar freaking opposites.

Guys on the radio made a note that the players didn't do the huddle and stick raise to the fans at the end of the game which is the norm for a home game win.

Good game, good win.  Everyone contributed,  as in teamwork.

Leafs won 44 faceoffs to Tampa Bay's 22.  A nod to our centers here.

Good work, guys!

G0 LEAFS G0!!

We'll smoke them 9-2 because that's how tantalizingly and recurrently stupid this whole franchise is.

Bah.  Just another impediment to making the changes that need to be made.

well that's just stupid if it was intentional

I'm not that against it.

If getting pissed at their own fans gets them up for home games (and 5-2 wins against league leading teams) I'll take it.

Obviously the support part wasn't really doing it for them.

We're really scraping the bottom of the barrel for stories.

Not so Cody Franson.  Or, almost, as he skated to centre ice before skating back with the group.

It (the non-salute) seemed like a last-minute decision initiated by Kessel/Phaneuf(?).  While it didn't seem right, consider that having a beer can thrown & explode near you is not something anyone wants.

This is getting way too much air time on the radio this morning.

Seriously...who gives a crap.  Geez.

Holy crap this is stupid. This tradition of saluting the fans after every home win isn't even all that old. The Rangers I think started doing it 2 or 3 seasons ago and everybody else just followed suit. Maybe there's a perfectly good explanation for this, like the players feel like it's being overused and is losing its significance.

edit: Looks like the Rangers actually started doing this after the first lockout, but I don't think it caught on league wide until the past few seasons.

I wondered what would come of it. Hopefully it's forgotten a lot sooner than later.

They just drew more attention to themselves (from the media).

I have found the salute has become forced and hate to say it, cheesy.  It was cute the first few times, but I don't see why it's so imperative to do it after every home win.  Leave it to either the last regular season or playoff game as a send off to the fans.
