Lupul signs five-year contract extension

http://livenews.thestar.com/Event/Maple_Leafs_home_opener_Live_updates_throughout_the_day
Carlyle - "Lupul and I didn't see eye to eye in the past but he's a much different player than he is now than he was then. I didn't put him in the right situation. But he's a much more complete hockey player today than he was five or six years ago. He's shown a tremendous amount of leadershiop, grit and determination for where he is today,"

Carlyle also talked about how his back injury threatened his career and how Lupul responded by really taking care of himself. He also mentioned that Lupul is going to the front of the net now and each line needs players to fill roles and that's a role he's embraced.

Funny, I was surprised when I heard about the Lupul extension, but I guess I shouldn't have been.  All signs pointed to him working on a new deal, he gets an "A", they announce he's taking over the "Lupe's Troops" charity work.  They managed to really keep it quiet, I didn't hear any talk that they were working on an extension.

Leaf lines at morning skate: MacArthur-Bozak-Kessel; JVR-Grabo-Kulemin; Lupul-Kadri-Komarov

Lupul bumped from the first line... Everyone panic!  ::)

Makes sense since Carlyle was looking for ways to increase Kadri's icetime. I suspect that line will get similar ice-time to the 1st.

^ This. ^ I don't think it means much at all.

Nope and I`d say the Kadri line is quite handily the 2nd line at the moment anyway, at least until Grabbo gets the production going.

Depends how you view it, because the 2nd line I believe has been used (Kulemin especially) in tough defensive minutes thus far.  I don't think that means they're not the 2nd line, they've just been utilized differently but still getting 2nd line minutes.

Yeah that is probably fair. If Kadri is estabalishing himself as a legit secondary scoring threat with his line, then it will probably point Grabbo`s role even more in that defensive direction.

If Kadri's long-term future with the Leafs is at centre then hopefully he can push even past the secondary scoring status and play with Kessel on the top line at some point. Grabs (and more importantly his contract) is kind of wasted on the 3rd line.

If Kadri keeps going like this, just swap him with Bozak.  Everyone's always said he's a good 3C center anyhow.  Leave Grabs at 2C.

Ugh.  Anyone want to guess as to how long he'll be out?

Depends on how bad the break is and where it is. Could be a couple weeks. Could be a couple months. My friend broke a bone in her forearm like 3 months ago, and she's still not 100%. Granted, she hasn't exactly been vigilant in following the doctor's advice, but, still.

I googled and Rob Gronkowski in the NFL had a broken forearm with a prognosis of 4-6 weeks.  But I would guess there could be varying degrees, etc.

Yeah, you and Busta are pretty much in sync.  I'm going to guess 1 month.
