Marlies Talk

Not once did I get to yell out JUICY!!! after a good string of games from this guy.  OK, I'll admit I don't watch the Marlies, I wanted a Leafs juicy yell.

Yeah Juicy was more of a disappointment then Gus really.  Rynnas would show flashes of looking good but for the most part was pretty bad.  I guess that was the idea behind signing 4 undrafted UFA goalies.  You kind of hope 1 or 2 pan out and thus far Scrivens was that guy.  Owuya the youngest of the lot looked so great last year but has really struggled so maybe the jury is still out on him.

Winning ways continue, Marlies with a 4-2 win last night.  Now 5 in a row and 9 of 11.  They sit one point back with a game in hand on Grand Rapids for 2nd in the Western Conference.  Great game from MacIntyre again getting second star and stopping 35 of 37.

Colborne  with 3 points and he has 9 points in his last 8 games.  Hamilton also with 3 points including his 30th goal.  Hamilton is on fire with 7 goals and 12 points in his last 6 games.  Going back further he has 10 goals and 18 points in his last 12 games.  I so wish Hamilton would play more physical as I think he would slot in very well on a third line with Komarov and McClement as a bonafide shutdown line in the future that could chip in with some offence.  Once the d shakes out and we go back to 7 dman rather than 8, that same line could be our 4th line and give one of the enforcers a night on when playing certain clubs.

I hope Colborne pans out, a big center like him would be a nice to have.  He just turned 23, I'm hoping he can make the team in September, would really make the roster look all that much better with Kadri and Colborne as 2 good young centers.

So, there's still hope for Colborne?

I think there always was, at least from my point of view. I'm convinced his injury played a big part in his issues.

Let's hope it was completely injury related. He has been playing very well of late, and would be a real nice peice for the Leafs in the coming years with his size and skillset.

Hamilton needs a call up to the Leafs, I think he can help out and be a good 3rd/4th liner.  UFA this summer again, hopefully if the Leafs don't give him the chance, he gets a shot somewhere in the NHL.

Colborne also plays better with good players, he is a great passer and he needs a guy who can finish what he starts.  He thrived with Crabb last season before Crabb was recalled to the big club and before Colborne's injury.  Remember Crabb had 7 goals and 15 points in 9 games last year.  Those two were insane before Crabb was recalled.  Colborne had 16 points during that 9 game stretch.  Now that he has been playing on a line with Hamilton another goal scorer who is also lighting it up, Colborne is once again playing well.  I would love to see how Colborne makes out with a true sniper like Kessel at some point down the road.  If Colborne continues a great finish to the season, I think it is all but inevitable that Bozak isn't resigned.

I think most players score more points when they play with better players, but I had a theory that Joe needs to move up a level. I believe that players can also regress a bit, if they spend too much time in a lower league. There is probably an ( or several) example(s) of a player that played better in the NHL than in the AHL.

It would be great if Colborne replaced Bozak. Colborne is an excellent passer, big body and he would actually made plays for Kessel and Lups. Could be a heck of line.

with Komiserak on waivers it opens up a roster spot.......perhaps for Colbourne??? Nice

No room for him really now unless a centre is moved from the top 3 lines or we see an injury because he isn't coming up to sit in the press box.  Next year or nothing for Colborne I would think.

Kyle Cicerella breaks down what the Marlies blueline will look like for the rest of the season. The team has 11 defencemen on the roster.

Owuya's been sent to the ECHL. So MacIntyre and Rynnas will handle the goaltending duties for now. Wonder if Toronto will try to get Sparks any playing time if they get the chance.

Really looking forward to seeing the new look Marlie D tonight with Holzer, Komisarek and Reilly all in Chicago to take on the Wolves tonight.  Marlies will miss Ryan Hamilton big time though.

Line-up for the revamped Marlies:

Ross-Colborne-Zigomanis
D'Amigo-Acton-Scott
McKegg-Connolly-Abbott
Devane-Ryan-Carrick

Ranger-Blacker
Rielly-Holzer
Marshall-Komisarek

MacIntyre

That's a pretty weak looking forward group, especially on the wings.

Pretty solid defense though for an AHL team. No free links.... anyone???

Definitely. And that's with Gysbers scratched and Mottau injured. I'm fairly certain Marlies streams have pretty much been nonexistent since the lockout ended. I wouldn't get my hopes up for any.
