Mikheyev to miss at least 3 months

Terrible for Mikheyev. Hope he makes a full recovery. Team is going to miss him.

Skates...ugh. I came close to a major injury once playing pond hockey, fell forward while chasing a guy and saw his skate blade come within inches of my face. I'm sure  most here have probably had similar experiences.

Man. I was really hoping his great play would afford the club an upgrade on defence with a Johnsson trade.

Get well soon Mik. On the brightside, winger depth is this team's greatest strength. Some new faces may flourish. I think Soup's earned a Hyman-type offer when he returns.

I figured a trainer would stay behind with him, but I wondered if Dubas might too.  That's A+ behavior on his part.  Can you imagine having a very scary injury in another country where you don't really speak the language?  I don't care how old you are, that injury would leave you frightened.  Great move by Dubas.  He's walking the walk.

Nice move by Dubas staying with the kid.

Dubas stayed in New Jersey for days to support Mikheyev.

"Kyle went above and beyond his duty," Dan Milstein, the player?s agent, told Sportsnet in an interview.

That included not only spending the better part of three days keeping him company in hospital, but also going out to personally buy him clothes and other personal effects, according to Milstein.

When asked why he chose to stay behind with the player, Dubas credited his wife Shannon for the idea. They spoke in the aftermath of Friday?s incident ? which saw Mikheyev lose a frightening amount of blood after being cut by Jesper Bratt?s skate ? and Dubas?s wife pointed out that if roles were reversed and it was their son going through something similar in Russia, that they?d want every assurance he was being properly cared for.

Gary Bettman about to fine the Leafs for emotional manipulation in the pursuit of cap circumvention.

I always like it when the people running the team come across as decent and kind. I don't mean that as just a platitude either. A lot of people look back on Burke's time with the team as being just an on-ice failure but I think certain things he did from the You Can Play stuff to the whole extended Christmas freeze to small things like trying to get rid of the Rookie Hazing Dinners make me have a real fondness for him that isn't in anyway lessened because the team didn't play the way I wanted them to.

Of course I did say the same thing with a lot of Babcock's public comments so who knows.

Logged on (haven?t logged in a couple of years I think) just to like your post but there?s no ?like? button.  Agree with it in it?s entirety.

I never thought of Babs as being a "nice" guy like Dubas. He had a habit of putting Dubas down with certain comments and the way he treated certain players wasn't always good.
Burke from all accounts is well liked by all who played for him. He treated his players/employees well. Dubas seems to be of that type that generally cares about people and we've seen lots of examples of it. I think it bodes well moving forward.

I never thought of Babcock as "nice" as in soft or easy-going but he definitely said/did things that made me think of him as a pretty decent guy whether it was simple things like vocally encouraging his players to have interests outside of hockey or larger things like spending time helping out in Humboldt.

There's a noteworthy detail about his recovery here:

The 25-year-old is now pain-free and in remarkably good spirits, according to Milstein, despite being given a strict 90-day period of recovery where he?s not allowed to put pressure on his right hand while the tendons heal. That will keep him from being able to grip a stick or shoot a puck until near the end of March.

"I would imagine on the 91st (day) you might see him on the ice," said Milstein.

That's where the minimum 3 months comes from.
