I would offer up Jesse Blacker and see if we could get William Karlsson in return. Anaheim probably wants something a bit better than Blacker and more NHL ready, but I wouldn't trade Rielly or Gardiner. Anaheim might have to look elsewhere, unless they want a Marlie.

Send them that Liles kid.

That would be great if we could convince them he's only 25. "He's NHL ready, he just got squeezed out by our numbers on the back end" "Great years ahead of him!"

Dreger - Anaheim Ducks GM Bob Murray is looking for a defenceman and its believed Toronto, Pittsburgh and maybe Philadelphia are involved. They want a young defenceman and may give up a young forward in return.

Where was this reported?  Don't see it on his twitter feed.

I wonder if Phaneuf would be in the talks..he's not exactly young any more, but I think he could be available. The Leafs are stacked on defence and I can't see Nonis giving him a high value contract.

My guess is that it was Franson that Anaheim asked about, just by process of elimination. Maybe Gunnarsson too, but I doubt it was Phaneuf...

Franson's status with the Leafs was really looking like it would be up in the air, but with the way he's playing right now that's probably not going to happen.

During the HotStove tonight, Elliotte was saying teams were calling the Leafs about Gardiner, given some of the articles being written.......

I hope Nonis has been shutting them down fast.

Noticed Burke was at the game, Hmmmmm...

Monahan for Rielly?  ;)

Monahan for Reimer.

:P

It completely slipped my mind that Kiprosoff is no longer with the Flames. Burke very well may have his eye on Reimer. I would hope Burke doesn't expect any discounted prices because of his connections.

Oh I have no doubt Burke would come calling for Reimer. It makes too much sense and fits right into his typical behavior... old colleague to trade with, former player he put a LOT of faith in publicly.

I think the Oilers might do the same thing.

I'm already sold on trading him. I like Reimer but Bernier is just that good. Need to find a good solid veteran backup to replace Reimer for well under $1 mil, like Chris Mason who I think is still UFA.

Leafs probably can get back the same return they spent to get Bernier, plus save at least $800-$1 mil on the cap to boot.

Let's just wait a week or two before trading Reimer..as good as Bernier has been. Injuries etc happen, and we can get a better sample of their play. Plus, having them both will cause each of them to work harder...and I really don't think this team can go very long without having exceptional goaltending in case of injuries.

Burke's kids still live in Toronto and he is big on family so I wouldn't put much stock in him being at game. We are probably going to be seeing a lot of him this year.

That's a sound strategy. The only pitfall to that, at least in my mind, is it very well may diminish Reimer's trade value, if he loses the starting job outright, and get less and less starts.

They would have to trade someone else away to make room for anyone they bring in with a trade for Reimer. Unless it's for draft picks?

I'd definitely want their first, which could be very high this year, unless Reimer changes that.

I really don't think Reimer will falter like that, but even still, 20 games or so does not erase the previous seasons of good play.

It doesn't tend to work that way in the real world in the short-term. Even if Reimer loses the starting job to Bernier, unless it's a complete collapse, the teams that want him now will still want him just as much later in the season. Teams making competing bids for his services and the fact that the Leafs don't have to trade him will create a market that will see him have similar value to what he has right now.
