Orr should be sent down.  Doesn't fight anymore, he is literally just taking up space.  Use his cap hit for a younger player who can use the NHL minutes.  And use the lack of Orr to give the 4th line some more minutes.

Does anyone agree with the assessment during the game that Orr hasn't been the same since the Parros incident to start the year?

It's amazing to me they haven't done this yet.

Wilson would have sent him down already. Or never even had him called back up in the first place and re-signed.

I agree with it for sure.  He hasn't been the same player at all this year and in that game he sure looked like the Orr who was going to terrorize the other team all game long.

Maybe the fight with Parros on Saturday snaps him out of whatever it was that changed, whether it's some weird fear of hurting someone or whatever it was.

Yeah he seems almost disengaged.

5 fights this year, 3 have been with Parros.

Thanks.

To me, Fraser would be the first shipped out from the defense. Orr from the offense, but seeing the love affair with Orr, I could certainly see McClaren and Smithson sent down.

I'd probably send down Ranger, in the hopes that now that he's reacquainted with the speed and skill of the game that the NHL level, he'd have a better idea of what he needs to work on - and I don't think he'll be better served working on things better regular minutes in the AHL than as the #7 guy in the NHL. He could possibly get to the point where he'll be a useful enough piece later in the season and as depth in the playoffs (if the team turns things around quick enough). Fraser, on the other hand, is a lost cause. The only real difference between him last season and him this season is that his skating has been even worse because of his injury. More ice time anywhere isn't going to help him with that.

Honestly, though, I'd send them both down and call up Holzer or Brennan as well.

Dion's not going to spontaneously combust when he's taken away from Gunnarsson.

Edit: on another note, before we sign Phaneuf to a massive deal I would be a little interested to see how he fares with another partner for an extended period of tome. Somebody who will only have success with one guy might not be a player I want to re-sign for 7 years/$49mil.

Again, I wouldn't mess with it.  Still, your second point has merit.

Nothing weird about that.  Maybe he just doesn't have the stomach to go out and be a goon anymore.

There's probably 6 different options on the Marlies right now that would be an improvement over Fraser. And 3 of them play a similar style.

You've got a point there.  Once you move north of 30, one's perspective changes.

Yeah. Brennan and Holzer are really just the two more veteran guys there. I'd prefer to see the others getting regular ice time with the Marlies than being rotated in as the #7 with the Leafs.

Yeah I don't necessarily have a problem with who you picked, just pointing out how absolutely worthless Fraser is to the Leafs right now.

Might be time to try Holzer again. Still think he's capable if he doesn't get overwhelmed again (and stays on 3rd pair). he also plays the right side which is another thing the team really needs right now.

I have a feeling that Gleason trade is going down this week, which would add a big improvement on Fraser.

Canes blogger on Twitter said Gleason is a shadow of his former self and is skating like Douglas Murray.  Hasn't been the same since coming back from injury.  I wonder how much of an improvement he'd really be.

EDIT: Here are the quotes:

@ShutdownLine

@Hope_Smoke Lost a step last year and he has been Doug Murray bad this year. Injuries have taken their toll on him.

@ShutdownLine

@Hope_Smoke He hasn't been healthy all season either, but he always seemed to battle through an injury or two.

What about Kevin Marshall?  I thought his physical play was ok in the pre-season.  Could use some sandpaper back there, and his skating I think it better than Fraser's.
