Hope_Smoke: Dineen "I look at the Leafs as a high end skill team. I don't look at them as a defensive team"

Hope_Smoke: Dineen "If I was coaching against the Leafs the defense is something that I'd like to exploit"

And what suggests Carlyle is trying to make them into a defensive team?

To me, he's trying to figure out how to get them to be remotely competent defensively and they are more or less allowed to run wild offensively.  Hence, why they play run and gun for the most part and rely heavily on the goalie.

Dineen and Laviolette would be on my short list....obviously pending who gets fired at the end of the year.

The passive, back-up-and-defend-the-net style he employs?

I think that's called trying to find anything that might make them be able to defend even a little bit.

The top 2 lines who seem to have a green light to do whatever they want in the offensive zone, including 3 deep half the time?

Don't forget the everyone-chase-the-guy-with-the-puck style too. It's neat seeing D men out at their own blue line

Not sure who you mean... is he the retired guy who lives on Hilton Head Island?

I guess I just wanted to make sure you weren't saying that Dineen missing the playoffs in 2012-13 because of league-worst goaltending (29th in EV SV%) would be akin to Carlyle possibly missing the playoffs this season despite receiving top-5 goaltending all year long aside from a handful of games.

This is the problem, there is no savior coach out there to do a better job in opinion. Quinn is too old although I love the guy.  I would have had Maurice back but he is not getting a lot of response from the Jets? I don't want Laviollette.

No one suggested he is.

How could we forget the defensemen BEHIND the net system employed by Wilson?

At least that's better than the 3 guys behind the net strategy we've seen frequently from Carlyle's Leafs.
