Well, yes. I still think it's the best place to quickly look up TOI stuff.

Benning on Stamkos: He's gonna have lots of interest across the league. But we'll talk to him and see where it goes

When Ron Wilson said basically the same thing about the Sedins the Leafs were fined for tampering.

Wilson's remark: ?There's a real possibility, I would think, that we would be going after the Sedins."

That's only a snippet of what Wilson said. Context is important and has an impact. In response to a statement in an interview about how the Leafs prioritized size, Wilson said this:
"You're hearing right now, and this sounds very contradictory but, there's a real possibility, I would think, that we would be going after the Sedins. Let's just speculate there."
herman said:Thanks for grabbing the context half. Honestly, that breaks the letter of the law, but only just barely. Benning will only get dinged if TBL files a complaint, right?
?He?s a bigtime player that would love to play in one of the biggest stages of the world and, personally, I?ve always belived that there would be a strong attraction to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs because of that, having known Steven long before, certainly, he was a superstar in the NHL and spending time with him.
Some guys hate that. Vinny Lecavalier hated that concept; Steven Stamkos, I think he loves it.

Possibly the favourite now.
Deebo said:Who knows what Stamkos himself is thinking though, he might already have another team in mind. If he has, Detroit having the cap space is kind of irrelevant. I think there are definitely valid reasons why Detroit wouldn't be an attractive destination for him. They aren't what they used to be.

True, but I think they still carry some cachet, and there's some good young pieces there in Larkin, Nyqvist, Tatar, Mrazek, etc. Add a Stamkos, and things start to get really interesting.

Apart from Larkin I don't think those names are really that exciting (or young). Nyquist is 26 and had 43 and 54 points in the last 2 years. Tatar is 25 and 45 and 56 pts. They don't appear to have much on the blue line either - Green, Dekeyser and a 35 year old Kronwall led them in ice time. They also have 3 straight 1st round exits.
The more I look at their roster, the less I think Stamkos would want to join it. But I think speculating on what a player is thinking is difficult to do and I could be wrong and we him sign there.

Nik the Trik said:Interesting article over at Sportsnet quoting Yzerman saying that Tampa might be interested in doing a sign and trade.
Which is kind of relevant as it would mean that a team willing to go 8 years and give up an asset would gain a bit of a negotiating advantage.
