This was a great article.

To this day he is humble and level-headed.  Do I ever miss watching him play in a Leaf uniform.

"Knowing that I did not win a Stanley Cup championship, it felt a little extra special being inducted on my first chance," he said. "I figured I had a chance to get in maybe eventually, but to get inducted right away, not having a Stanley Cup championship, to me it showed the committee in some way valued my career and what I've done without winning a [NHL] championship. That meant a lot to me."

...and it means a lot to us Leafs fans knowing that our Mats is recognized for his remarkable accomplishments while wearing the blue and white.

Mats, we still miss you, always will.  Congratulations!

I didn't think I could ever miss a player more than Gilmour or Clark, but I have come to realize I really do miss Mats more than those two.  Maybe it's because of how bad the team has been since he left magnifies how important he was to the team and/or it just goes to show how good he really was.

When Clark left, we had Gilmour.

When Gilmour left, we had Mats.

When Mats left, we had Antropov.

And to think Leafs fans disrespected our longtime captain and wanted him traded away during his final season here. I never agreed with that and still look back with malice. Captain Mats was the best.

Humble to the end....

Great piece from LeBrun. It is true, you realize just how good they were, when they`re not in the line-up anymore.

Sundin was the greatest. We didn't realize what we had until he was gone. It's hard to even put into words the contributions he made to the Leafs, the city of Toronto, and the game of hockey. I miss the glory days of having a fierce dependable leader like Sundin giving 110% every night.

He is the best Leaf of all time.

Thanks for the link. It's definitely a great read and really sums up how people should look at Sundin's time here. This quote, from the man himself at the end about his not winning a cup really got to me.

Does that missing accomplishment haunt Sundin? Hardly.

"I've been asked that many times," said Sundin. "I look at my career and I still can't believe how blessed I was to have the life and career I've had. It's just overwhelming what the game of hockey has brought to my life ever since I was a little kid learning to play. I feel so fortunate to have played in the National Hockey League. I've never once thought for a second about whether there was anything different we could have done [to win a Cup]. I've got too much from the game of hockey, more than anyone can ask for. I've won championships internationally. I'm just fortunate and got way too much out of the game of hockey, more than I deserve, probably."

Forget having another player like him, I wish there were more people like him.

For real. I think he's an excellent human being and would be a person I'd love to know personally just for what kind of class and ethics he has.

I think this video fully captures Sundin's impact on Toronto. He returns to Toronto as a Canuck and in his first game back scores the shootout winner for Vancouver - resulting in a huge eruption of cheers in the ACC. It's funny, one of the loudest points the ACC has ever been at in the last few years was cheering for a Leafs loss.

A welcome sight from the HHOF Legends game:

Saw some of the highlights last night of Team Gilmour vs Team Trotter, and, Mats was his usual scoring self.  I'd swear he'd make the Leafs team anytime again, never looking out of place.  Watching him score was pure joy!

Hear hear, Nik.  Very well put.

I'm not impressed by celebrities but the one I would really like to meet, just to shake his hand, would be Mats Sundin.

Mats better get his HHOF moment at the ACC one day. I have an unhealthy anger about this. Still, class speech from a class man. Thank YOU Mats!
