His grandfather was black.

Ah. Well, then, it does then seem like the slightest bit of a misnomer to simply refer to him as black as compared to Terry's "white". Unless, of course, the belief is that having a single relative of a particular race/ethnicity is enough, in which case I have very strong views on the whole Redskins/Braves issue.

It is very common for white Dutch people to don "black face" in order to be Schwartz Piet. You may not think it's racist but at the very least it's massively insensitive, not unlike the Gollywog doll you mentioned. For it to be so openly accepted is also very disconcerting, IMO. Just because you grew up with something and didn't think it was racist, doesn't mean others had the same opinion. Would you be ok with a "Jewish doll" that was portrayed with a big nose?
The point I am making is that if I had a doll with a big nose, and someone comes along and says that it's a Jewish doll doesn't mean that it is a Jewish doll or that I am racist. Even the article you cited stated that Black Pete was not considered to be a black man but a soot covered boy who can't wash it out.  And anyone who had an issue with my gollywog, well i guess that's their cross to bear.

Anyway Black Pete is way off topic and I can't debate it beyond the superficial level.  I think a more interesting point to discuss is whether John Terry will get anything close to what FA gave Suarez.  You know black guy gets 8 game suspension and white guy gets off on lack proof. ::)

No I get your point. You're allowed to be racially insensitive even if said race has a problem with it because, well, it's their cross to bear. All power to you I guess.

You seemingly missed the historical anecdotes and the "but he doesn't wash clean" part as well as the way in which he speaks Dutch (ie like a black immigrant).

We used to have similar things in North America (mainly the States), minstrels, lil Sambo etc. yet at the urging of African Americans stopped what was a veiled (or outright) form of racism.

I would seriously hope that if someone of a minority race found a term you used or something you had in your possession at work etc. you'd at least consider their feelings before brazenly deciding you didn't care what they thought.

The Nazi Swastika is visibly different than the Hindu/Sanskrit one. As for Sports team names, I'm not sure it particularly matters if they were created with respect (I mean really you "believe" so, but have no idea). If a group has a problem with it, then they can easily be changed "with the utmost respect".

Many Sicilians are black somewhere in their history due to the Moors as well, yet their are lots of very racist Sicilians.

Bobby Fischer was Jewish and was also extremely racist towards the Jews.

I guess that makes their racism ok.

Their is a Michael Jackson joke in there somewhere.

why r the playing at the dome and not at bmo field just wondering.

The cost and time needed to winterize BMO Field to accommodate a home game before St. Paddy's day was a bit much. Their home opener this year was a bit earlier than usual this year and there was a cold snap after the game. That dip in the weather caused almost $100k in damage.

As to the other comment about the Galaxy having a larger following, probably not. Beckham is now out of contract and all signs have him signing a new deal in France. Landon Donovan is on loan to Everton and likely won't be back before this game. As long as TFC prices and markets this game properly (big IF on both points), then they could pack the place like the Montreal Impact did for their quarter-final in the 2008-09 tournament against Santos Laguna.

That or, you know, some people have existed and traveled on the planet in their life-times. For example I've traveled to every European country for my work in the last 10 years. Call it what you like but I speak from experience. You can speak from in front of your T.V. but don't drag me along with you.

When do the fixtures normally get released? I'm going to be in Toronto in June and if there's a game on would love to go.

What are the chances of getting a ticket as well?

MLS is famous for releasing its fixture list in pieces. So far they have only released the opening weekend and the rest of the home openers. The rest will probably come in February. Tickets have gotten easier to come by and can usually be had through ticketmaster leading up to the match.

Beckham rejected PSG's offer for 'family reasons', but hasn't completely committed to returning to the Galaxy either. Is he waiting for an offer from an EPL team? Milan? I wonder if he has any motivation to try and play his way onto the England squad for the upcoming Euro?

Becks!

Yeah I saw the opening week fixtures on the website. Thanks for that Seahawk!

Thought I read somewhere that he wasn't in the plans for England at the Euro. If not the Euro, then he could be one of the 3 overage players for Team GB at the Olympics, which is for the most part a U-23 tournament.

The weekend I'm going to be over seems to be a free weekend (first weekend of June). Shame. Would have loved to catch a game!

TFC released ticket details on Friday for the home leg of their CCL quarter-final against the LA Galaxy. They go on general sale on January 13th with prices ranging from $12-69 + the usual ticketmaster service charges. Apparently over 70% of the seats will be $30 or less.

Does anyone know when general tickets go on sale for MLS 2012? I haven't been able to find any information online or on TFC's website.

I tweeted that same question to TFC about 2 weeks ago. The response then was likely early March. I'm guessing it will be after they face the Galaxy at the Dome. I get their emails and can post a follow up here if you want.
