I'm not really understanding the point of this thread.

Impatience.

Could be incredibly hard for him in the next while.... I'll give him a preview of the Leafs, circa 2017...

Kadri/ van Riemsdyk/ Kessel
Ashton/Colborne/ Frattin
Ross/ Ott/ Biggs
D?Amigo/ Helm / Komarov
Broll

Reilly/ Phaneuf
Gardiner/ Franson
Blacker/ Holzer
Finn/ Percy

Reimer
Scrivens

Oh yeah, we signed Ott as a free agent and traded for Darren Helm.

What happened to Grabovski and Kulemin?

I don't mean to go out on a crazy limb here but I'm going to guess that the issue isn't confined to the last three weeks.

Well, even if we expand it to the entire off season, it's not like there's been a ton of significant moves that have been made. It's been a slow summer for pretty much everyone.

Well, as eager as you know I am to debate what constitutes a significant move I'm more inclined to instead just agree that it's been a disappointing off season to date. Really, the best that can be said is that the team is "probably" a little better because of McClement.

Is there not a Burke thread already?  And couldn't rants be included there as well?

Finally, may I suggest that those who start a thread at least make the title of it somewhat informative.

Yup. Impatience. Over the past, what, 3 weeks, there have been all of 2 significant moves around the league - and one of those involved a player staying where he was for big money. Burke's not a magician. He can't create moves out of nowhere. If other teams or players aren't willing to play ball, then there's nothing he can do. The uncertainty around the CBA has dragged movement around the league to a crawl.

Also, I mean, Rome's not burning. With the additions of JvR and McClement with the only real subtraction being Schenn, the Leafs are probably a better team than they were when the season ended.

Not a ton better to be honest, but still better. We have to keep in mind that our prospects are developing pretty decently. What happened to all the excitement in getting to the cup final with one of the youngest teams in the AHL? Most players on the team are legitimate prospects even if they aren't bluechippers. And who knows, maybe Rielly pans out and makes the team in 13/14.
Wow, so after 3 years we have a team that is slightly better than what we had under Ferguson, probably the worst GM league wide over the past 10 years.  What does that tell you about Burke?  FIRE HIM NOW MLSE!

I updated the OP.  Honestly I think this warrants its own thread as it discusses our angst at the lack of any sort of news over the past several months.  Burke is doing absolutely nothing, it's disgusting.

And Lupul and MacArthur?

As opposed to the 17-page thread entitled "All quiet on the Leaf front. But why?", which has run since the middle of June?

You mean your angst.

I have to agree with the notion that I'd rather not have Burke do something for the sake of doing something.  I'm sure there are players he could acquire if he gave up his first round pick...but since there's a decent chance that pick could end up being Nathan MacKinnon, I wouldn't like to see that happen.

As well, so many other shoes need to fall.  For example, if Luongo is traded to the Panthers...suddenly Jose Theodore becomes available, no?

Whoa, dude... You're going to have an anyeurism or heart attack. Or both. Concurrently.

They're not a lot better from last year thus far, but I will be surprised if no moves are made between now and the beginning of the regular season. I think we're in a much position going forward than we ever were with JFJ.

:(

Honestly it's fans like you guys that just accept this nonsense and pay for Leafs tickets that keep our team in a constant state of mediocrity.

I honestly think Burke didn't have a lot of options this offseason to revamp the team into a contender. (Until I hear he could have had Luongo for a 2nd round pick and declined)

I hope we finish worse than Columbus (A difficult task) and land the number 1 pick in 2013.

There is a lot of promising UFA's in 2013 and I'm hoping the new CBA contains term limits on contracts so Burke can outbid teams without adding 3 years of 1 mil per at the end of a contract to bring down the cap hit.

I'm waiting til next year.

I think Burke is just plain lazy. It's been a hot summer, and he probably has one of those old wired-in phones with a rotary dial. Those things are even difficult to answer, as you have to put down your sandwich, get out of bed and walk over to where the phone is literally plugged into the jack. Forget about dialing someone up on one of those and propose a trade, as your index finger just tires right out, especially dialing zeros. That's just gotta be the reason its so quiet. Just plain laziness.

'Mediocrity' would seem to be something of an overstatement. If the team continues on its current arc of development and a few of our prospects develop then maybe--just maybe--the Leafs could hope to become mediocre in the next few years.

Right now it's a bit premature to say.

Hmm... I want to say "and fans like you who have been impatient wanting a winner now that have caused us to trade away all prospects and picks for over-the-hill veterans, but still resulting in getting bounced early in the first couple of rounds", but I won't.  :P

Maybe try a petition?

I mean, some people are just more rational than others and understand building a hockey team a little better.
