As for Heard, the fact that he didn't get into either of the games was not a good sign for his chances of getting a deal. He might still be able to snag a contract with the Marlies, but, he's not worth using up a reserve list spot on.

I guess not, but I thought he played pretty well. I hope they maybe offer him an AHL deal. Like Devane, it would have been nice to see what he could have done against some NHL talent in one of these games. I'd be willing to bet they would have showed better than Scott did last night.

Perhaps this was mentioned earlier and it's a little late suggesting it considering the pre-season games are well underway, but I found it strange that the teams only had basically a weekened to practice before being thrown right into game action.
Not only am I concerned about the team not having sufficient time to learn the system (considering the new players and coaches), but is there not bound to be a rash of injuries from players who are over-exerting themselves without the proper build up time? I know the majority have been training throughout the summer, but a couple more days wouldn't have hurt I would think.

Yeah, it doesn'r make much sence... Like I sais, it's just 2+ weeks of me holding my breath that nobody gets hurt. I don't like the pre-season at all. - Even when it's more carefully thought out.

Based on pre-season so far, I'd have to think that Gardiner is making things interesting for the opening night line up decisions. Also Dupuis vs Boyce and Kadri vs Frattin are hard picks right now.
I would expect that Frattin, Kadri, Gardiner, Boyce and Dupuis will make it past the cuts today and will be the guys left standing to fill in the cracks and get more time to prove themselves in the last few games before October 6th rolls around.
I think that Lashoff will likely be sent down, thanks to the young Gardiner. I also believe that Crabb has done nothing to keep himself with the big club. Most of the other cuts today will probably be no surprise.
Lombardi coming in and being cleared for contact adds in an interesting twist for the above boys vying for a spot on the roster. Burke might have to be forced into a move, to make all this work out.
Players that caught my attention, while probably not sticking around today were Mikus, Colborne and Scrivens. I thought all of those guys had a very good camp and will certainly be in the mix in the coming year or two. It's nice to see all this depth.

On the forward lines though, he could have a bit more depth to play with. If a top line center becomes available, he would have to consider any player, but Connolly would have to be the player that loses his spot IMO. I know you don't really sign a player usually, only to trade, demote or whatever, but I wouldn't really want to lose any of our younger players, as it would hamper what we're trying to do. Connolly is only a stop gap and only that because there wasn't another option available for us.
I'm thinking a two for one deal or something like that to help get numbers down. That deal will be hard to make though I think. The player we'd need would probably take 3 roster players/ prospects and some picks.

He really doesn't have a chance at sticking around unless a) someone is traded or b) the Leafs plan on carrying 8 defenceman, neither of which are likely in my opinion. They might just want an extra defenceman in camp though for logistical purposes.
