CF, not sure where it's coming from but supposedly Franson's agent is talking with the Leafs, fwiw.

Talking, I'm sure.. agreeing to anything? I'm just not quite sure how. i'm sure Cody's request is a top six role and not spending half the season in the press box. Don't see Burke able to promise that.  Result: Stay in Sweden or trade.

Trade Franson's rights n a 3rd round pick to Montreal for Subban who's already skating with the Leafs

Will take more than that. Rumor last night was Philli offering Cotourier for Subban.

I'd give up our 1st for Subban. Probably two.

Sure, I can see that, I'm not really sure what's going on there either just worth a note, though it does seem weird that he can't beat out, say, Holzer for a spot if that's the plan or whatever.

Holzer plays a more stable, more reliable game than Franson has since he came to Toronto.  Holzer can beat him out by being that player.

I know but that's the question I'd be putting to Franson ( not direct comparison obviously ) during contract talks. The guy doesn't seem to have a problem putting up ES points and he's got size so...? He didn't fit with Wilson, I really have to wonder if he'd find a clearer more appropriate role under Carlyle.

Holzer has shown squat in the NHL though.

It would help if he had an opportunity to show it, plus Franson hasn't shown much more than squat since he came here.

Franson got off to a bad start here when he complained about his lack of playing time to the media. I'm not swayed on Franson's playing abilities either way - we really don't know who he is yet. Still, I think this team can use a player of Holzer or Fraser's type more than Franson.

Franson's an offensive D-man with limited defensive skills but we already have Phaneuf, Liles, Gardiner, and sorta Gunarsson for offense on the back end. This team severely lacks a shut-down guy (thanks Komisarek), so good player of Holzer or Fraser's type would provide more value to this team than Franson at this point. I was adamant that we needed a solid defensive defenseman in the off-season but Burke failed to get one. Maybe Holzer or Fraser can be that guy.

Mike Ulmer talks about how the Leafs are perfectly positioned to pick up some salary and potentially some great players in the next few months.

Ulmer Blog

It was hopeful but why wouldn't Ulmer know that you can't buy out injured players (Bruins with Marc Savard)? That's a glaring error.

Per the Denver Post:
Rumors have swirled that O'Reilly ? who led the Avs with 37 assists and 55 points last season, in addition to an NHL-high 101 takeaways ? might be traded or remain playing in Russia. He is the last Avs player unsigned by Colorado general manager Greg Sherman, and the Avs are more than $16 million under the 2012-13 salary cap of $70.2 million ($54 million payroll).
The salary cap shrinks to $64.3 million next season ? still plenty of room for O'Reilly, who likely seeks $3.2 million to $4 million annually.

Wonder if there'd be any realistic way to bring O'Reilly to Toronto...? I still expect the Avs to sign him, but if they decided to trade him, it might be worth a shot.

Well, the most pressing question is whether his performance in 11/12 was a break out season or an anomaly, and, from there, what's his value and does giving that up to get him make the Leafs better than not making that move. Right now, I'm not convinced the Avs won't seek more than it would be worth for the Leafs to add him.

It seems like there's possibly some bad blood between the two camps, and the next step would be  trading him. On the other hand he could re-sign with them tomorrow and the whole thing would be squashed.
